Why are Black Lives Matter activists disrupting Bernie Sanders' appearances and what effects?

Yes, the Democrats suck. We already know this. They’re the worst major political party in America except for the Republicans.

That’s not good enough. “The Democrats suck and use racist, coded language, the Republicans just use it more.”

Again, Reagan started these policies at a time of declining drug use. It was “high-minded” in the sense that actions fit for a KKK grand dragon are “high-minded”. You could have plausibly denied Reagan was talking in coded language during his campaign, but now that we can see the results, I don’t think so.

To frame the result as “crime went down” when blacks were jailed at a rate 50x that of whites for a crime they don’t commit more often is just dishonest. I would say a crime was committed.

I disagree that everyone got uncomfortable. I watched both debates, and not one word about this issue. At a time when Trump rocketed to the top of the polls by trumpeting raw ethnic prejudice, and when everyone agrees the GOP loses if he forms a 3rd ticket and takes these voters with him.

Try to be real.

Sorry, don’t know how I got two versions of my comments posted.

Democrats got uncomfortable, very recently. While crime was dropping, Democrats like Bill Clinton and Martin O’Malley were happy to brag about the success of their harsh crime policies. No Republican forced either of them to do what they did. Nor were they unaware at the time that the policies disproportionately jailed blacks.

Crocodile tears.

How did the policies disproportionately jailed Blacks?
Why were more Black people jailed?

They don’t do it as much any more, and they should still be called out for it when they do.

The last 3 Democratic party presidents have been an auburn-snatch-whisker to the left of Reagan. Carter is responsible for great festering gobs of deregulation, to the extent that it might not be unreasonable to lay some of the blame for the S&L crisis at his feet. It is difficult to imagine that Hillary Clinton would be more than two blond whiskers to the left of her own husband.

Both sides are bad. So vote Republican? Amiright?

Chaffee would applaud your use of the metric system.

Maybe the protestors realize that increasing the minimum wage, as the economic creationist Bernie Sanders advocates, will increase already sky-high unemployment among black youth.

Sanders should be taken to task for using big government to keep individuals from participating in voluntary exchange.

So, when Democrats talk about getting more black people into the middle class, what they’re secretly saying is that they want to turn them into white people?

In O’Malley’s case it’s because he only instituted the strong arm policing tactics in black districts. There were never any “quality of life” shakedowns in Roland Park, or even the among the drunken post-college whites in Federal Hill. Places like Park Heights and Sandtown-Winchester saw the brunt of gestapo tactics.

Given Republican strategy in key states, do black votes even matter?

Yes, it is a vicious plot involving bleach and hair straightener. :dubious:

Trump says he’ll beat up BLM disruptions. Please, BLM, try it?

…and mayonnaise and plaid pants.

Oh, I don’t know. I can think of one Republican that forced Bill Clinton to do what he did: Ronald Reagan. Once Reagan went there and showed that ‘tough on crime’ (code for ‘tough on blacks’) was how the election was won, Bill Clinton, political gamesman extraordinaire, beat them at their own game. “No one is tougher on crime than me” was part of his platform. He won by not fighting which way the wind blows, he saved America from four more years of a Bush presidency (the best Bush IMHO FWIW), but he expanded the War on Drugs… a mixed record for sure.

No president since has done much to do away with ‘the new Jim Crow’, a discredit to them all. But let’s compare this to a program Republicans would love to get rid of: Social Security. They won’t admit it. W tried to privatize it. It explains all their bizarre contradictions around the deficit- no, we can’t solve the deficit, unless we destroy Social Security! That’s the GOP today right there.

But no Republican administration has been able to do away with it, as hard as they try, as much as they want to. And there have been plenty of Republican administrations since the New Deal, just not so much recently. So. Who deserves the blame for the continued existence of Social Security? All those Republican administrations? No, it’s Roosevelt, of course. He put it in place. I hope this point is sufficiently obvious.

Now, who is responsible for increasing the prison population in this country from ~300,000 in 1980 to ~2 million today, with most of the increase consisting of minorities? Whose fault is it that America today imprisons a larger percentage of its minority population than South Africa did at the height of apartheid? Whose fault is it that the police in America have free reign to ignore the 4th Amendment when ostensibly in the pursuit of Drug War aims, and that minorities face the brunt of this treatment? Of course it is the fault of Ronald Racist.

I don’t know why you can’t acknowledge this, adaher. And I am surprised at your accusation of insincerity. Personally, I don’t have a track record of it, on the board or in rl. Politicians? Well, just a minute ago you were claiming that the drug war had to be a high-minded, face-value attempt to get people to stop using drugs, and nothing more. The results beg to differ.

You probably think the Patriot Act is all about patriotism.

The drug war as conceived as high minded. The effort to reduce crime was high minded. When Bill Clinton wanted to put 100,000 new cops on the street I don’t think he envisioned an increase in wrongful shootings of minorities as part of the deal.

What isn’t high minded is apologizing for past successes because that’s the way the wind seems to be blowing NOW. Well, at least in the Democratic primary. I think you’ll see a 90 degree turn, if not a full 180, once the general election starts. The “soft on crime” accusations will fly and Clinton or O’Malley will shift from apologizing for their policies to bragging about them again.
