Groups of teenager kids are pretty damn loud. How about a group of women, or a bunch of guys talking about sports? People in groups having a good time tend to sound loud. I don’t think there’s anything cultural about it.

Yes. When I was in Grand Junction a few weeks ago, there was a group of white women (umm, in case anyone is wondering where they’re at) tennis players partying in the hallway. Well, actually in four different rooms, which from time to time would coalesce in the hallway and then separate into their rooms again. I almost seriously considered buying a porn movie, cranking up the volume, and leaving my door open to send them scurrying for cover. Golly! Talk about loud!

Vinyl Turnip, in his/her first post on this thread, came at the same topic in a way that came across as far more diplomatic, open-minded way. And no one rode them or dismissed them or their post.
I have never, ever gone after someone in the pit - but VC03, dude - if you don’t see that there is a difference between asking interesting, thought-provoking and potentially challenging questions in a way that invites true discussion vs. just being a dick, then just step away from the keyboard.
The behavior of being loud and uncouth is assigned by an upper class to folks they perceive as being of a lower class. Same thing with being cheap - Scots were accused of being cheap by the English, Jews by most Europeans, etc. Loud and uncouth is conferred upon “white trash” by people who don’t consider themselves to be in that group, etc…trying to associate that behavior with one specific ethnicity - unless you really couch what you are saying as VT did - is an invitation to come across like a racist dick, not as someone who is fascinatingly provocative…

If there’s one thing Dopers have convinced me in all the threads like this in the past, it’s that there are no discernable differences between any two cultures, ethnicities, or races. I used to think that there were particular characteristics and behaviours that somehow identified people of different groups. I understand now how stupid and backwards that is.
But worry not…I’ve finally seen the light. I now understand that taking notice of the various values, tastes, and behaviors of members of different cultural groups can only be a product of nearsighted racism. Saying that members of an ethnic group, in general, might tend toward certain characteristics is just plain bigoted and wrong. I realize now that all the different characteristics of every culture and race average out to the same values. We’re all indistinguishable, and have no defining traits!
Meanwhile, I’m sitting here, watching Dave Chappelle demonstrate how white people love guitar music, and black people only respond to drums. One day, that fucker will wise up, learn that no culturally-based behavioral differences exist between blacks and whites, and stop being such a stereotyping bigot.

True. There are differences among the ethnicities. I think what gets more Dopers riled up than bigoted seeming statements is taking anecdotal evidence and equating that with axiomatic truth.

Here, I’ll help you out.Phlosphr, way on above, had it partially right. See, the Negro Races have a third muscle in their larynx, which explains why they can sing so well.
