Why are empty-profiled Facebookers Hello-ing me all of a sudden?

I hardly use FaceBook. I’m a bit on the Facebook-oblivious side.

Lately I’ve been bombarded with new friend requests all coming from people who

• have virtually no profile

• have female-flavored usernames; if they have avatars they’re kind of underclad. Some don’t have avatars though.

• include, invariably, just the single word “Hello :)” with smilie like that, as the message and “Hello” as the subject line.

I’ve been clicking “Report as Spam” and they vaporize. But what’s up with this influx? Is Facebook itself infected or something?

You’ve just made it onto a distribution list somehow. If you actually friended one their status would be something like “Come see my real pics at ForwardURLl.com.”

The ones I’ve been getting lately are shill accounts for fling dot com.
