I second this recommendation, although reading “Queen Bees” as well wouldn’t be a bad idea.

In my experience, this was true in high school, from about age 16 on (I kind of missed having classes with 14-15-year-olds so I’m not exactly sure of the timeline). Ages 12-14 were the stereotypical “girls who are good at sports and catty insults get all the boys and make other girls feel like shit” years. Actually, what changed a lot in that time was streamed classes and a larger school, so that by grade 10 I never even knew the names of the “bad kids” who were into drugs and skipping.
Good for your daughter for standing up for her friend. That’s real strength of character, and in the end it will serve well socially.
Don’t young children fit the profile for true sociopaths?
