Left-wingers have been peddling this theory for years. It overlooks a few inconvenient facts, however:

Jews were accepted in the South long before they were accepted in the North. That may be partly because Southern Protestants already had a religious group they loathed far more: the Catholics.
And how does any of this disprove what Senegoid put forth?

While I agree with everyone who has quoted this post that the best response is to point at it and laugh, I will, for the sake of those new to such nonsense, point out the glaring errors in it.
The issue with money changers refers to a specific event in the Gospels. Jews, (who could afford it), came from across the Mediterranean basin and Middle East to worship at the temple, bringing their own currencies when they did. When they sought to purchase sacrifices for the temple, as was required of them, the purchases were to be made in Jewish coins. As a result, a trade sprang up near the temple of people exchanging foreign currency for Jewish currency. Jesus never had a problem with that. However, over the course of many years, the money changers began setting up shop within the temple property, desecrating, in the view of Jesus and others, the temple. This was not any sort of “Jews are currency manipulators” silliness, just the invasion of commerce into holy ground.
The issue with money lending came about differently. The Torah forbids the charging of usage for loans on people within the community. When Christianity arose, Christians interpreted it to mean that Christians could not charge other Christians while Jews continued to see it as a prohibition on charging other Jews. However, Christians had no problem interpreting scripture to say that theyt could charge Jews and pagans and Jews had no problem charging Christians and pagans. After the fourth century, there were very few pagans around looking to borrow money. There were also far fewer Jews than Christians, so there was a much smaller market for Christian money than for Jewish money. However, there were lots of Christians who could use loans and only the Jews were available to provide such funds. It was never a case of Jews doing something special to become money-lenders–just a case in which the market, as determined by the scriptures to which both groups looked, providing more incentives to one group than to another.
In addition, outside powers, (Babylon, Rome), had a habit of carrying off Jewish people as the result of wars and rebellions. Since the Jews remained a cohesive group, bound by their religion, despite their physical separation, some of them began to travel among the various communities of the Diaspora, eventually becoming couriers and merchants.
With the combined factors of becoming money-lenders to Christians and their position as a noted merchant class, they became one de facto “banking” group at a time when banks did not exist as we know them.
A number of European rulers made use of their services to fund various enterprises, (typically wars). When the ruler then decided that he did not wish to repay his debt, it was a simple matter to declare that “those Jews” were responsible for any problems in the country and to expel them because they were not Christian.
Claims that they were traitors were simply lies invented by those rulers to rationalize the expulsions so that the rulers did not have to repay loans. As to the claim that they were traditionally weapons makers who sold to both sides of any conflict, that is simply more of the same invented nonsense.
The only “bible” in which God “gives up” on the Jews was the truncated bible created by Marcion and condemned by all Christians around 150.

Nothing in your post contradicts the post you quoted. Evangelicals and Fundamentalists have a noted history of promoting Israel without actually tolerating Judaism.
That a couple of people got elected in the South in no way demonstrates that the South “accepted” Jews more than the North did. (And, since Senegoid made no claim about “Southerners,” your appeal seems to be more than a bit misplaced. Evangelicals flourish in the North, as well as the South.)
For every Harry Golden in South Carolina there were dozens of Jewish Authors in New York, Chicago, and other Northern cities. (And before making claims of Southern Acceptance, one should probably read what Golden actually wrote.)
One might also consider the details of the case of Leo Frank when regaling us with tales of “acceptance.”
Well, a lot of Evangelicals do believe that the restoration of Israel as a nation, and perhaps a rebuilt Temple, will all lead to the End Times & Jesus’ Return. A rebuilt Temple does not make Jesus come back. Instead, a rebuilt Temple is part of the supposed prophesized scenario. (Ezekiel 37- the national restoration, II Thessalonians 2 - the Man of Sin [AntiChrist] desecrates the Temple)
Others of us take a different turn- that Israel’s national restoration is a prelude to their spiritual restoration as they come to faith in Jesus, which then leads to worldwide Christian revival. More an emphasis on God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12 & Paul’s view of Israel’s future in Romans 9-11.
Jesus’ appearing in Glory to His generation can be seen as the Transfiguration; His Ascension & Enthronement at the Father’s Side, witnessed by Stephen the Martyr & James His Brother; His showing John the End-Time events of The Revelation; or His Coming in Judgement at the 70 A.D. Destruction of Jerusalem.

*Here in the United States, the Zionists and their co-religionists have complete control of our government. What happened? World War I broke out in the summer of 1914. There are few people here my age who remember that. Now that war was waged on one side by Great Britain, France, and Russia; and on the other side by Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey.
Within two years Germany had won that war: not only won it nominally, but won it actually. The German submarines, which were a surprise to the world, had swept all the convoys from the Atlantic Ocean. Great Britain stood there without ammunition for her soldiers, with one week’s food supply – and after that, starvation. At that time, the French army had mutinied. They had lost 600,000 of the flower of French youth in the defense of Verdun on the Somme. The Russian army was defecting, they were picking up their toys and going home, they didn’t want to play war anymore, they didn’t like the Czar. And the Italian army had collapsed.
Not a shot had been fired on German soil. Not one enemy soldier had crossed the border into Germany. And yet, Germany was offering England peace terms. They offered England a negotiated peace on what the lawyers call a status quo ante basis. That means: “Let’s call the war off, and let everything be as it was before the war started.” England, in the summer of 1916 was considering that – seriously. They had no choice. It was either accepting this negotiated peace that Germany was magnanimously offering them, or going on with the war and being totally defeated.
While that was going on, the Zionists in Germany, who represented the Zionists from Eastern Europe, went to the British War Cabinet and – I am going to be brief because it’s a long story, but I have all the documents to prove any statement that I make – they said: “Look here. You can yet win this war. You don’t have to give up. You don’t have to accept the negotiated peace offered to you now by Germany. You can win this war if the United States will come in as your ally.” The United States was not in the war at that time. We were fresh; we were young; we were rich; we were powerful. They told England: “We will guarantee to bring the United States into the war as your ally, to fight with you on your side, if you will promise us Palestine after you win the war.” In other words, they made this deal: “We will get the United States into this war as your ally. The price you must pay is Palestine after you have won the war and defeated Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey.” Now England had as much right to promise Palestine to anybody, as the United States would have to promise Japan to Ireland for any reason whatsoever. It’s absolutely absurd that Great Britain, that never had any connection or any interest or any right in what is known as Palestine should offer it as coin of the realm to pay the Zionists for bringing the United States into the war. However, they did make that promise, in October of 1916. And shortly after that – I don’t know how many here remember it – the United States, which was almost totally pro-German, entered the war as Britain’s ally.
I say that the United States was almost totally pro-German because the newspapers here were controlled by Jews, the bankers were Jews, all the media of mass communications in this country were controlled by Jews; and they, the Jews, were pro-German. They were pro-German because many of them had come from Germany, and also they wanted to see Germany lick the Czar. The Jews didn’t like the Czar, and they didn’t want Russia to win this war. These German-Jew bankers, like Kuhn Loeb and the other big banking firms in the United States refused to finance France or England to the extent of one dollar. They stood aside and they said: “As long as France and England are tied up with Russia, not one cent!” But they poured money into Germany, they fought beside Germany against Russia, trying to lick the Czarist regime.
Now those same Jews, when they saw the possibility of getting Palestine, went to England and they made this deal. At that time, everything changed, like a traffic light that changes from red to green. Where the newspapers had been all pro-German, where they’d been telling the people of the difficulties that Germany was having fighting Great Britain commercially and in other respects, all of a sudden the Germans were no good. They were villains. They were Huns. They were shooting Red Cross nurses. They were cutting off babies’ hands. They were no good. Shortly after that, Mr. Wilson declared war on Germany.
The Zionists in London had sent cables to the United States, to Justice Brandeis, saying “Go to work on President Wilson. We’re getting from England what we want. Now you go to work on President Wilson and get the United States into the war.” That’s how the United States got into the war. There was absolutely no reason for World War I to be our war. After we got into the war, the Zionists went to Great Britain and they said: “Well, we performed our part of the agreement. Let’s have something in writing that shows that you are going to keep your bargain and give us Palestine after you win the war.” They didn’t know whether the war would last another year or another ten years. So they started to work out a receipt. The receipt took the form of a letter, which was worded in very cryptic language so that the world at large wouldn’t know what it was all about. And that was called the Balfour Declaration.
The Balfour Declaration was merely Great Britain’s promise to pay the Zionists what they had agreed upon as a consideration for getting the United States into the war. So this great Balfour Declaration, that you hear so much about, is just as phony as a three dollar bill. I don’t think I could make it more emphatic than that.
That is where all the trouble started. The United States got in the war. The United States crushed Germany. You know what happened. When the war ended, and the Germans went to Paris for the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 there were 117 Jews there, as a delegation representing the Jews, headed by Bernard Baruch. I was there: I ought to know. Now what happened? The Jews at that peace conference, when they were cutting up Germany and parceling out Europe to all these nations who claimed a right to a certain part of European territory, said, “How about Palestine for us?” And they produced, for the first time to the knowledge of the Germans, this Balfour Declaration. So the Germans, for the first time realized, “Oh, so that was the game! That’s why the United States came into the war.” The Germans for the first time realized that they were defeated, they suffered the terrific reparations that were slapped onto them, because the Zionists wanted Palestine and were determined to get it at any cost…*

I agree with you in a way but not all of it. Judaism has a very long history in the South including the oldest continuously operating synagogues in the U.S. in places like Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA dating back to the 18th century. New Orleans also has a very old and rather large Jewish community that has a disproportionate amount of influence. There are true Jewish Southern Belles and aristocratic Southern Jewish families that have been there for centuries and have always been held in high regard.
I personally know more Texan Jews than I can count especially from the Houston area (my step-grandmother is one). They are both true Texans and Jewish at the same time.
I read an article recently that described the loss of Jewish families and their associated businesses that have been around for generations due to the economic crisis. Lots of younger people are leaving the smaller cities but it becomes much more concrete when it results in the closure of family businesses that have been passed down through generations like many Jewish small businesses were and are regarded as a local institution.
There is this odd and incorrect view that Southerners have always hated anyone who is not white and Christian and that is not true in general. There was certainly discrimination among selected groups but there were never enough Jews around as a percentage of population in the South to warrant any type of systematic discrimination. The ones that were there tended to become an integral part of the community even if they were a little out the norm. Many of them became quite prominent because their families became very wealthy.
That is why you saw so many early examples of Jewish prominence in the South even before the rise of fundamentalist and evangelical churches. Money talks and nobody felt threatened by the rather small percentage of Jews that were in the South for generations. They were just viewed as an unconventional group of white wealthy Southerners.
Leo Frank is sort of a bad counterexample to the southern Jewish senators, because on the one hand, you’re dealing with the antebellum South and the other, 1915, and there was a pretty big shift in attitudes in that time. The whole country, as a matter of fact, grew more xenophobic and nativist over that time period.
Both the Transfiguration and the Ascension were not Jesus coming in his father’s glory,The Ascension and Transfiguration does not Have Jesus coming in his Fathers glory with his angels. The Ascension was a going up, not returning and the Transfiguration was Jesus being seen with Moses and some other dead human beings. Not coming back, or with any angels, The apostles were said to have seen him transfigured not returning!
If it weren’t for Judaism There would be no Christianity.

I don’t get how evangelicals can think the end times are coming soon when ground hasn’t even been broken on a new temple yet, nor are there plans to do so. And it’s not a freakin’ office building, it’ll take years to build a new temple, maybe over a decade. I hope the end times folks aren’t holding their breath.

I’d have to fish out my Greek NT, but Christ may well have meant they would see Him “coming into” or “coming to” His Father’s Glory. That would fit the Old Testament reference to Daniel Chapter 7 when he saw “the Son of Man coming with the clouds of Heaven” and approaching The Ancient of Days Who gave the Dominion over to the Son.
And there were angels at the Ascension- Acts 1.
