Why are many drug addict faces so bad looking?

Something I wonder is if the perceived unattractiveness is at least increased by addicts who are basically unhappy, dissatisfied with their lives, angry at the world, feel hurt/betrayed/abandoned by their friends and family and similar aspects?

Because there is a lot of truth to our attitudes being revealed by our faces. Not just moment to moment (you look more attractive when you genuinely smile) but long term tension and stress-caused expressions affects which/how deep wrinkles develop. There’s a lot of people where all it takes is one glance to feel ‘this person isn’t open and friendly and good willed’ and I think it knocks one or even many points off how attractive you think they are.

My guess is that people addicted to drugs are less happy overall than people who aren’t.

I’ve had facial expression rehab after my face surgeries. There’s a lot of truth in how you look and how you feel. If you smile, (I had to learn how to do it again, so I didn’t look like the Joker) it gives you a pleasant feeling. If you get that pleasant feeling enough you feel happier.
I still am afraid to smile big. But I’ve learned a decent Mona Lisa type smile that works for most casual situations. This is my experience, someone else’s milage will probably vary.
