why are men so tired after sex? TMI alert

I remember, waaaay back in 1978, the popular theory among women at college was this: There was no reason for a man to get tired and sleep after sex. It was just a power thing (everything was about power in those days). Yeah, those nasty men systemically oppressed women by screwing and then getting sleepy. Yet Another Pattern of Patriarchy! Boffing Oppresses Women! (YAPP, BOW).

I wonder how this works when I’m practicing alone. I doze right afterwards. I feel sleepy, as if drugged. Often I wake up, not realizing that I was drifting off to sleep in the first place. Oh, I feel so oppressed by society! Must stay awake, Must – Stay —awwaa…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The answer seems pretty obvious, FranticMad! Your body is so conditioned to the oppression/ejaculation mode that you can’t shake it even when you’re by yourself. Personally, I’m appalled at your behavior and if you don’t start waking up I’m gonna have to sick Susan Faludi on you!

I’d say that it is because any man who is NOT tired hasn’t put in enough effort.

I actually read an article, years ago (Sorry. No cite.), that put forth this very idea as a serious theory. Something to do with both allowing the female to seek other mates, in case the current one is infertile/genetically inferior, and allowing her to escape brutal or otherwise behaviorally undesirable mates. The article attributed the phenomenon to some bodily chemistry, though I don’t remember the chemical involved. (Sorry, again. It was a long time ago.) I don’t know how widely accepted the theory is/was by the scientific community, but it seemed pretty convincing, to me.

For the survey, I do tend to get sleepy/logy after sex, though the intensity of the reaction seems to be lessening as I get older. It also has always seemed to be directly proportional to the intensity of my orgasm. This is another reason I tend to believe the bodily chemistry theory.
