When PZ Myers desecrated the Eucharist, the Koran and the God Delusion simultaneously, he got much more outrage (and death threats) from Christians than from Muslims.
But he wasn’t arrested, there were no literal riots in the streets, he wasn’t actually physically attacked and no Catholic religious leaders called for the faithful to murder the dude.
Still seems like a bit of a difference to me.
What would inspire you to say that Muslims burn bibles, much less regularly? I’ve never heard of any Muslim burning a bible. Have you? If so, cite please.
And as for them burning American flags, it seems more of a national thing than a religious thing. Yet it still isn’t regular.

If a larger proportion of muslims are poorer and less-well educated than their western Abrahamic-faith brethren, they are likely to more subsceptible to the fury of rabble-rousing loons. Especially if their deprivation itself can be pinned on the object of their fury - Uncle Sam.

Do you suppose it’s possible that the real source of Muslim anger lies in (a) repeated invasions and occupations of Middle Eastern countries by western countries that have killed millions of Muslims and (b) puppet governments in Middle Eastern countries, such as the House of Saud, backed by the West, that routinely deprive the native population of their basic rights? Do you suppose it’s possible that issues such as the Danish cartoons and the Koran burnings are not the cause of massive Islamic protests, but rather just flash points for the anger built up over decades of war and political oppression?

Well, let’s not forget the Crusades (though the agitators who keep bringing up that theme seem to have forgotten the preceding Muslim invasion of Europe). Or the millions of Muslims who’ve died in wars provoked by Muslims (the Iran-Iraq war being one obvious example).
And there’s the stoking of rage against non-Muslims by all those Muslim dictators who love the idea of distracting their masses, who might otherwise funnel their anger into overthrowing their oppressive governments.
Short answer to the OP:
Islam, like all religions, is rife with contradictions in its value system. The more politically extreme members of any religion are going to cherry-pick the values which support their agenda and those which degrade the agenda of their opposition.

The huge fallacy that permeates every discussion like this is confusing the religion of a group of people with their culture and politics. Although there are a lot of terrorists who thump the Qu’ran to use religion as justification for their acts, none of this terrorism is actually driven by the religion per se. They decide what they want to do and then look for rationale in scripture to do it (every religion has such folks–just ask a gay man who has been called an abomination by a Christian). Islam as a religion does not teach killing people just because they have a different religion. It’s easy to take passages from scripture out of context to attack the motives of that religion. You can do the same thing with the Bible.
The conflict is fundamentally a political and cultural one between the U.S.-influenced West vs. traditional Middle Eastern and Arab countries. Religion just provides a little color.

Nonetheless it’s a basic and logical historical truth that people are more opposed to abusive government from long distances than from short distances. In the late 1700’s American colonists went to war to oppose being taxed by the British government, then quickly accepted similar taxation by the newfound American government. Similarly with Muslims right now. We can see plainly that Islam does not cause anti-American sentiment. Many large Muslim countries and regions such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, and most of western Africa have not produced any movements of concern to Americans. The Muslims who are angry with us are the ones whose nations are occupied (directly or indirectly) by us: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Yemen, Palestine … Cartoons or Koran burnings light the fuse, but American, European, and Israeli occupations are the explosives.
Or, for another analogy, the books say that the great revolt in India began because Hindus and Muslims were upset about being required to bite into bullets coated with fat from cows and pigs, respectively. But they were really upset about being ruled by the British. The bullet thing was just a focal point.

Yep, They just want us to get out of the Middle East or they will take our country away from us. “If you want to live by the sword, your going to die by the sword”. We have never gotten that point so now they are in the process of Muslimizing the US… As I type. I think the whole Koran burning showed me how our president feels about the Koran and offending Muslims. They can offend us all day long but we can’t? That isn’t fair! We are censored but they are not??? Why is that? They can burn our bibles and flag all day long in Iraq but a preacher can not burn one Koran on 9-11 in the US? If you took every article written on this and substituted the word “Bible” for “Koran”, nobody would care and there would be no news stories. If that happened, no Christians would go around beheading anyone. Nothing would be burned down. There would be no riots, protests and no violence. Here’s how it works according to a Central Intelligence Agency 2007 report:
When the Muslim population remains 1% - 2% of a country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority as in the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Italy, and Norway.
At 2% - 4% of the population they begin to proselytize ethnic minorities and begin major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs as they have done in Denmark, Germany, U.K., Spain, and Thailand.
From 5% - 8% of the population they exercise a greater influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For instance, they increase pressure on supermarket chains to carry Islamic foods on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply with their demands as they have done in France, the Philippines, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago. At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under the Sharia Law.
At 10% - 15% of the population, they increase lawlessness as a means of achieving compliance with their demands. Any action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats as in Guyana, India, Israel, Kenya, and Russia.
After reaching 20% - 50% of the population expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burnings as they have done in Ethiopia, Bosnia, Chad, and Lebanon.
From 60% - 70% of the population you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels as they have done in Albania, Malaysia, Qatar, and Sudan.
After reaching 80% - 90% of the population expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide as they have done in Bangladesh, Egypt, Gaza, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, and Turkey.
At 100% of the population they will compel all people to adopt Islam or they will put them to death as they have done in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Yemen.
Muslims are coming to a neighborhood near you. Never think they “accept” you! Never believe they will not harm you! The ultimate goal of Islam is to establish Sharia law over the entire world. Resistance is futile unless they are kept out in the first place!
With the US birth rate below sustainability and open immigration they will out number us in 20 years. They don’t practice birth control and sometimes have more then one wife. They may appear to be just another group of immigrants coming into our country for freedom like the rest of us did but the rest of us had to adapt to the rules of society and Muslims will not. Period. Lets not forget they hate us, even when they are smiling… They hate us, our ways and our freedom.
So that brings me to my point. I think we should act now while we can to fix this problem. I’m no general but I think we need to pull out our troops out of the Middle East and stay out. They don’t want us there. If we are not over there killing them they are less likely to attack us. We need to stop any further immigration of Muslims as they can’t, won’t, assimilate with our culture. We should deport any Arabs that will not conform to our rules. There are still a couple hundred thousand or more here already that are multiplying like rabbits. Lets not make their plan too easy. I also think it’s time we told Palestine and Israel they are on their own. We can’t get involved in their spats anymore.

Now that is something we should fix and they would love us to help them. It’s only right seeing we helped create that hell hole on earth.
When we make a mistake we must promptly admit it and remedy it. Not compound it with our money and human lives. We need to get out and stay out and secure our borders right now. We attacked them and they retaliated. We started a war we had no business being in. Game over, I say. Do we have to just hand them The US on a golden platter like our government wants us to?
