Why Are Muslims So Touchy?

I say we burn more books. Solves everything.

Wow. You need to adjust your spam filter on your email.

I think its a question of power imbalance and of showing leadership.

Those who react strongly to perceived slights of their culture and religion are in my experience (a) immature dickwads looking for an excuse to fight or (b) those that feel powerless against and threatened by those that have slighted them. There are probably equal numbers of the former on either side, but there are probably more people who feel the latter on the Muslim side. Western physical and cultural imperialism is much more serious and widespread than Muslim terrorism. Consequently while there are touchy offenderati on both sides, there are more on the Muslim side.

The other thing is that much of the criticism of the planned Koran burning came from the Christian and Secualar West, not from Muslims. This isn’t evidence of a failing, it is evidence of maturity and good tactics. Keeping to the high moral ground is powerful and shows good leadership. It’s harder to keep to the high moral ground while elements of your own group are descending to silly immature provocative behaviour, even if members of the opposing group started it. Better to rise above it.

She’s completely serious and has posted a lot of similar garbage in other threads.

It’s not garbage. You just say that because you don’t have a solution. BTW, I’m sorry about your brother. I have been busy lately but I do get small amounts of time to read here. I need my dose of The Dope. My hairdressers brother in the National Guard just got sent over to Iraq last week to relieve the troops leaving and she was a mess. She talked to her brother on Skype and it’s bad over there. It’s classified so she couldn’t say anything other then he is miserable and afraid of being killed during the withdrawl. He went over now to avoid being sent to Afganistan. She said one thing that disturbed me greatly. She said he is being treated bad by the US troops themselves because he is National Guard? I don’t get why you would be angry at your relief?

It’s always easier to laugh at the truth and ignore it then to find solutions. We made a mistake and we need to get out of the Middle East and stay out. What have we won by being over there other then to make the Arabs hate us as a nation? Our ways are not their ways and never will be. Has this war taught us anything?

I don’t blame them for being touchy. I would be touchy if they took over the US and imposed their beliefs on me. I’m just keeping it real and as usual it’s to heavy for this page. Sorry.

Is that like just asking questions?

There tends to quite a dose of dingbattedness in her posts in general - e.g. completely not understanding Opals "innocuous stuff’ thread even though it was explained to her over and over. I just assume she’s young because she posts the way my 14-year-old nephew speaks.

Fictional problems don’t need solutions. People have tried to correct your mistakes about Muslims but evidently it’s no use. Oh well.

Thank you.

Perciful, the reason I know your post is complete nonsense is that Muslims have already come to my neighborhood. I live in Southeast Michigan, which has the largest proportion of Muslims in the US. And yet, things carry on here pretty much as normal. I see women wearing headscarves on a daily basis, and yet somehow, with great effort, I find the strength of will to go about my business anyway.

Maybe if you left New Hampshire and met some people who weren’t WASPs once in awhile, you would learn to function in the real world.

BTW, I used to live in Bulgaria, which is about 13% Muslim (my own area was much higher, around 40%) and none of the things you seem to think must be happening there are. I look forward to your explanation as to why that is, as I’m sure it will make perfect sense and in no way make you look like a crazy person.

You’d be touchy, too, considering God hates the Quran for being a fag.

Islam is not just a religion it’s a complete way of life. Christians can use the “render to Caesar what is Caesar’s and render to God what is God’s” to sort of seperate church and state.

The Qur’an is not merely a book it is the WORD of God. It isn’t like the Bible where man took down words of God, it is the EXACT word of God as dictated by God himself. This means there is much less room for interpretation. In fact the Qur’an is only valid if it’s in Arabic as other translations are deemed as works of man and subject to error.

Muslims are first and formost MUSLIMS, then they are everything else second.

Think of it this way an attack on Islam is like an attack on your mother. You can say bad things about your mum but no one else better.

Yo mama so ugly Bob the Builder looked at her and said: “I can’t fix that!!!”

Winner winner chicken dinner!

What’s that you say? Have I ever heard of dual loyalty, and am I familiar with the pitfalls of this way of thinking and the mistrust it encourages? Why, no, I haven’t! Do go on.

How does one desecrate The God Delusion, anyway?

Buggered if I know - and in any case, it would be more like defacing “Mere Christianity” or some other Christian apologia than profaning the Body of Christ or the written Word of Allah, so hardly a rigorous equivalence there I feel.

The thousands of people protesting saying “death to Christians”?

I don’t know about that. When it’s football season, I think my parents identify as football fans first and foremost. Except the U.S. Open’s on, too, and that might trump the footballing and the whole religion thing…

Perciful, you really do need to get your information from more than one source. You are being fed a lot of misinformation by someone. Do you want to know the truth or do you want to just buy into what on person or group tells you?

I am a Christian who also lives among Muslims. Here in Nashville we have the highest population of Kurds outside of Iraq. Our neighborhood is very pleasant. And it’s the Anglos who are demanding more of the Middle Eastern food! The restaurants are popular here.

You speak about their “so called freedom of religion.” Do you think that Freedom of Religion is for Christians only? Do you think that it shouldn’t apply to Muslims? Have you ever read the Quran? Are you aware that it teaches the “Golden Rule” about treating others as we would want to be treated?

How many Muslims do you know personally? Try to think of them as human beings. Only a small portion are terrorists. The Muslims in Iraq have suffered terribly because of the terrorists and and “the war on terrorism.” 100,000 dead and a million refugees. Have a little mercy.

THe Qur’an was said to be dictated to Muhammad by an Angel of God, not God . Who knows what Muhammad really heard, and if it was just in his own mind like any other religious writer. One can claim God told them something and even some of the writers on this board think they hear God’s teachings, I believe it is in their own minds, and I do not believe God spoke to anyone just becasue they said or believe He did.

Why would God tell one man something then change His mind and state ,“No that isn’t right”.

All Muslims do not believe a lot of what is taught. An Orthodox Bishop, The head Bishop for his church has a letter directly frim Muhammed that states that all faiths are to be respected. Some Muslims practice that, some do not, there are fanatics in all religions, and because they make the loudest noise they are listened to.To me their fanatisim shows they do not really believe, but just need something to fight about because they are dissatisfied with some thing else in their lives.

Some use politics to keep their people in line and many are afraid to not go along for fear of punishment or death. Some are uneducated and just accept that the leaders are correct, and have no way to know any better. Many radicals are uneducated, many are illiterate.
