Why are my florescent floodlights burning out?

Over the last 6 months or so they periodically flicker (as a whole and not individual ones) and they seem to to burnout way too quickly. Like ones I bought less then 6 months ago are dead.

What could this be and should I have the landlord call an electrician out?

If they are flickering at the same time, there could be something wrong with the electricity coming in the house. That could shorten the life of the bulbs.

I’d be more worried about my computers and television. At the least you want a surge suppressor on them and maybe an uninterruptable power supple (UPS) on a high price TV or computer.

Where are they? How are they activated? There are two things fluorescent lamps don’t like, and those are A) cold, and B) being turned on and off frequently. So if they’re in, for example, a motion-activated floodlight, that could shorten their lifespan considerably.

In the kitchen and by flipping a switch. Think is I didn’t have this problem the first 1.5 years I was here but only the last 6 months.

Short answer = check the wall switch.

Long answer = If nothing flickers in the rest of the house, I would look at or just change the wall switch, cheap, easy to do, do the easy stuff first.

Or call the manager/landlord & tell them it is faulty & you need it replaced.
