Why are SD cartoons somewhat pornographic?

Just as the title asks.

Are you sure you know what pornographics means?

pornographic
Adjective
(adj) pornographic, adult (designed to arouse lust) “pornographic films and magazines”; “adult movies”

The OP misspelled “aren’t.”

Slug just draws what he sees.

The Straight Dope has cartoons?

Y’all know that Slug is Ed, right?

No, and this isn’t a case of a “Cecil isn’t Ed wink wink” thing. Slug is a real and separate person from Ed, I’ve chatted with him off and on and seen photos after his heart surgery, and have had other overwhelming proof.

Wow, that was quick.

Considering the sick and twisted nature of Slug’s drawings, I’d be worried if I found they “caused sexual excitement.” Just sayin’.

I only watch High Definition pornographic cartoons

Ok…?

OK, now I understand.

All you ever wanted to know (or, at least, all you’re ever going to find out) about Slug.

Well, okay, you can find out even more about him here and especially here. Poke around there, you can even find his address, phone number, and e-mail. (The page appears to be from 2008.)

When Slug started illustrating the Straight Dope (way back in the long ago), the CHICAGO READER prided itself on NOT being a G-rated family newspaper, but an “alternative” newspaper. Thus, Slug’s illustrations have always been… well, no, not “pornographic” but certainly have sexual overtones.

I don’t think the rest of us can really comprehend Slug.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what Straight Dope column was the first one illustrated by Slug? (Bonus cookies if you can link to it!)

Those damn dirty hippies.

Slug does have an art career apart from his Straight Dope cartoons. He’s not an alter ego, although I can understand why people think Ed or someone else might want to dissociate themselves from Slug’s creations.

Slug’s pictures often emphasize boobs and buttocks, and the women are often scantily clad. The themes are often titillating. Thus the choice of the word “pornographic”.

From the FAQ linked to above:

Assuming those illustrations aren’t quite so risque, I assume he has to get it out of his system somewhere.
