It’s that time again, when politicians think it’s a good idea to stand at busy intersections with a group and wave and shout to distract drivers. I’m sure there must be accidents caused by them and yet there they are!
Do they do this around the world or is it only in the U.S.?
Edit: The worst was a group that would stand on a downhill corner and block the view for drivers making a turn, forcing them to inch out into the intersection to see past them.
It’s equally distracting (and a lot more common) for promoters of commercial enterprises, not to mention the, um, lightly clad teenaged girls pushing carwashes to support high school band trips and other activities.
The worst example in memory was the car repair place on a busy two-lane road that I take on the way home. They decided it was a great idea to aim a strobe light into oncoming traffic to advertise their opening (a swell distraction, especially at night). After complaints they relocated the strobe so it only blinded you from the side (eventually they got rid of it altogether). I’ll be joyful on the day they go out of business.
