Why are smarties like Cecil and I such lousy administrators.

Yes, I understand that OS/2 was a superior product from a technical perspective, and I do know a bit about computers and programming myself. However, I suspect that as a product, it wasn’t what the market wanted. And people who had it eventually switched to Windows.

Yes, you and I might prefer rock-solid stability, and ease of programming, and wonderous TCP/IP capabilities, but that’s not what sells as a personal operating system.

Why?

For reasons that, given the amount of intelligence and reason you’ve displayed in this thread, would be beyond your understandings even if layed out for you in a mile-long point-by-point chart.

You’ve shown that you don’t care about answers, you don’t care about things being explained to you, you don’t give a rat’s ass about truth, accuracy, or facts. You only care about causing a stink.

Oh, and don’t you dare accuse me of having a sockpuppet again, you lying little sack of fermenting hobbit snot.

I just choked on my smoke-ridden lungs on that…Spoofely hun, you gotta warn us when god-damned funny shit like is about to enter the picture…OMG, I am in pain.

< giggling in pain now!!! God damnit >

I agree with you. I was very sad to see OS/2 finally die out (even though it is not completely dead, the IBM 600 E I am typing this on is a quad boot OS/2 | NT | Dos |Win95 machine I set up myself). If Microsoft had stuck with and backed OS/2, who knows? We all might be running much faster, better, slicker OS’es than we are now. (And yes, OS/2 was originally made by Microsoft. And in fact, in NT4 you can still find occasional error messages that say “OS/2 System Error” even!)

And SPOOFE - hobbit snot?

That’s weird, I always thought it was the other way around.

Your arrogant assumtions are 99 & 44/100 % correct.

Being a hardware type of guy, my experience is machine language.

I didn’t pull that programming EPROMs with a bank of batteries out of thin air.

And I asked, “Why?”

You did not answer.

I dare say it’s because,

the administration of this superior OS was inferior.

The same could be said of Beta and VHS.

Sony patented both Beta and VHS.

Beta had better resolution but VHS won in the marketplace.

Another example of smarties being lousy administrators.

Quality resolution lost to six hour tapes.

Smarties =/= administration.

So? Why did OS/2 lose out?

(To everyone else:

Please, no posts about uMatics

unless you’ll willing to also argue Marconi cameras

and reel to reel video tape recorders.)

I already posted some of the reasons why. I’m not playing this little game, because it’s like arguiing with a Fundie.

You can claim that OS/2’s inability to run Office 97, its lack of hardware driver support, poorer marketing, and the fact that it did not say “Microsoft” on it are all examples of “poor administration”, ignoring all other facts. You can also claim that Microsft was somehow not run by “smarties”, thus that is why they won. You may as well have said something like “OS/2 made Baby Jesus cry”, because the same sort of unwavering faith in something that cannot be proven by you is required.

Or does anyone else think I’m wrong?

Your theory seems to be good administration can solve all woes, create money where none exists, defy the laws of physics, etc., and any inability to do that can be blamed on bad administration. Other people posted long point-by-point posts of why your theories do not hold water. I already posted why OS/2 failed, yet you asked me why twice more, and ignored the other posts.

Thus, it seems evident that you are just having some fun here. Which is OK if you will be leaving soon. But if you intend to stay around, you ought to try to respond to some of the other posts as well.

Also, I’m curious as to why this whelp keeps using the word “smarties”. Those’re candy. Get it into your head, bub.

Face it, someone who refers to “intelligent people” as “smarties” is NOT someone who’s going to be taken seriously.

'CUSE ME! I never said that.
Please show me.
If I ever said THAT I will quite drinking and devote my life to Chick’s comics.

I repeat, 'cause this angers me to no end, I did not say that.

In fact I thought Office was a superior product to WordPerfect even if they did jump the number of the release of Office from 2.0 to beyond 6.0 just to outnumber the latest release number of WordPerfect.

(I have to warn you though that if you are right that you will forever, as long as you post on SDMB, be subjected to my demands that you read Chick’s comics.)

Okay, delaying posting of this message until I search, find, …
I have searched. I can not find where I typed about OS/2’s inability to run Office '97. Pulling Vodka from freezer and taking a sip, summonding courage…

Taking a deep breath.
A reason I put this in the BBQ Pit was because I knew that the statement “Cecil…bad administator…” would envoke the ire of those who consider Cecil Adams a demi-god. May you pagans rot in hell.

Searched again (maybe Opera for Linux is wrong.)
But I cannot find where I typed “Office '97.”

I hereby dedicate this thread to Gary Weaver of Hampton Roads’ Local Chatter (Fidonet) who typed, "The King James’ version of the Bible is God’s Word incarnate in the English language.

Okay, just have to check one more time.
I cannot find where I typed 'Office '97"
But I am human, I may well be wrong.
Please show to me my error.

I’ll post this message and then refresh my browser

Of course this does not negate my opinion of SPOOFE.
[sarcasim]
gotcha again, in more than one forum
[/sarcasim]

One more time, in a drunken stupor, where did I mention Office '97?

Not like that has anything to do with the OP.

***Got a slew of error messages tonight accessing the ***
local porn channel. So I started thinking about the
***SDMB (MySQL, by the way) which against my better judgement ***
made me lube myself up with motor oil. But it did
made me think. Why are smart people such lousy
masturbators? For once, I wish someone could give me a real carrot, then I’d show all of you that
Cecil Adams, PBUH, has the slowest, most error prone, unweildy message board ever concieved.

I will now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Oh, one more thing. My local bowling alley is the only thing that runs OS/2 anymore these days.

Aw, shit. The preview reply looked just fine… Oh boy, here it comes… (Abandoning thread)

I can’t believe you are so indignant over what is a literary usage of the word “you”.

Substitute “One” for “You” if it makes you happy. I was giving examples of why this argument will go nowhere with you, and how you are just playing games with us. You did not ever say any of the references to Office 97 yourself, that much is obvious. But this last post just proves my earlier points.

You have (apparantly) ignored all the detailed, well thought-out points brought by other members (and maybe some by myself, too) to focus on this. Why? Because you don’t actually have a real response to them, even after several days.

That’s OK - I can keep increasing my post count too by typing quick responses.

Get some new doctors.

Nice try, Anth, but this lad changes lightbulbs by standing still and letting the world revolve around him.
*Tonight, on Dateline SD . . . AcidKid develops reading comprehension skills.

But first, we’ll talk to Satan, Lord of the Abyss, Demon King of the Dell, about his recent acquisition of Arctic Cat, Inc.*

I’ve noticed. You ain’t the first dumbshit to follow me around the Boards.

I should start a fan club…

Oh, that’s nice. I’ve been wondering how Satan’s been faring since he got banned. Glad to hear he’s doing okay.
BTW, I still can’t get over the wonderful Miltonian irony of Satan being thrown out of the SDMB.

Got you beat, my bowling alley uses Xenix.

Very good.

Amidst a witty reply,
when I noticed “moderator.” Even better!

…gasping for air and grasping keyboard from floor…

Okay, not laughing…wait…wait…okay…wait…okay…

Forget it.
At least Chick supports his arguments with art work.

You are correct SPOOFE,
I cannot argue with logic like that.
