Some, like this one, may well have been “asked and answered”, but so what?
Why can’t someone, such as myself, arriving a few days later, add something?
I don’t see this pattern on other forums like Cecil and Mailbag and GQ when the original question has been answered and acknowledged by the OP.
We tend to close these threads when the question has been asked and answered because the other use of ATMB is for “test” threads. We prefer that people start fresh threads instead of testing in existing ones (unless there’s compelling reason to test in an existing thread, that would be fine.)
No big deal either way. And if you have something meaningful to say, by all means start another thread, if it’s good it’s good anywhere.
I guess that’s okay, but why raises the question why even “prefer that people start fresh threads instead of testing in existing ones”? Seems like it’s arbitrary, so why not let people do that if it makes sense to them.
Just an observation: Somehow these two parts seem at odds. The thread is closed, so even when “that would fine”, there would be no way to do it. Suppose this very thread had been closed with “I believe we’re done here” before “DSYoungEsq” had a chance to make his compelling question? If he had to start a new thread it would seem petty and argumentative, whereas on this thread it just seems like normal conversation. I’m just saying.
