The main reason that I don’t trade my licensed handgun in for a stun gun is that I’m afraid that I will miss (or alternatively that one shot won’t work). If they had a multiple shot stun gun then I wouldn’t worry about this occuring. I realize that stun guns work via a connection with the gun itself, but seems like it should still be possible to have a few "shots’
A ‘stun gun’ is the handheld one which must be pressed against the assailant. What you’re refering to is more commonly called a taser (though that’s actually a brand name). And you sort of answered your own question. Because of the trailing wires required to connect the darts to the power source a multiple shot taser, while possible, wouldn’t be practical.
Tasers can give multiple ‘shots’ of electricity to a target. This is commonly done, because some people aren’t stunned enough by the first one – they get back up and come at the officer again. Especially true of big, healthy young men, and of those under the influence of some drugs.
But since there are only a single pair of wires in the gun, all the multiple shots must be at the original target. You can’t turn and shoot a 2nd attacker with a Taser gun.
Here is a product in development that will turn your conventional gun into a stun gun will multiple shot capability, and no trailing wires:

- I thought that one model did have two shots, but I can’t find anything on the website now. Or maybe it came with two cartridges, and each cartridge was one-shot.
…
-Anyway, I don’t recommend it. A .45 Hi-Point costs a lot less, does offer multiple shots, and is a hell of a lot scarier for an attacker to have to look down the barrel of.
