I am on my work computer that I just got a whole 4 days ago when I started here. My Chrome that was already installed on this computer had the hangouts app on it already and it died (as hangouts tends to do). So I uninstalled it so that I could reinstall it, which I’ve done 100 times on my personal computer. But when I go to install it, instead of it popping in the browser, I get a .crx file to save to my computer.
I’ve never seen that before, and once I save it I don’t know what to do. Can anyone help?
Nevermind I finally found an answer from Google searching.
For anyone who reads this, basically just save the .crx file to your desktop, then go to the extensions section in your chrome settings, then drag and drop the file and hit add.
Really weird process, must have just streamlined every other time I’ve done it.
Chrome now prohibits any online installations other than from the official store. When you drag and drop, you are actually performing an offline installation with the file you’ve already downloaded.
