Why can't I have my monitor turn off?? (power saving)

I have NEVER had luck getting a monitor to reliably turn itself off after x minutes on any of my PCs.

What am I doing wrong? I can set it to turn off in say, 15 minutes, and for a day or so, it will. But then, it gets amnesia. It’ll blank just fine, but stays on. I’ll open the properties, and find it’s set to turn off in 15 minutes, just like it was two days ago.

For the curious, my current setup is an LCD connected via DVI to a PC running XP Pro. All very much current hardware that ought to have no problem with turning itself off, but no such luck. Back when it was a generic monitor on a Win95 box, odd behavior was almost expected. Sadly, the odd behavior persists.

Am I cursed? Or is my dog sneaking in while I’m at work and messing with the settings while she’s surfing bullmastiffshunglikebulls.com and freekibbledelivery.com?

Bumping this as someone here has to have a glimmer of an idea as to how Windows does power-savings.

At least I hope so. Searching the MSKB was less than enlightening.

Try the button on the lower right side of the monitor.

You might have better luck in GQ.
