Why can't things last forever? (YouTube)

I just recently checked my favorites list on YouTube. I haven’t bothered to check it in a while, but I was feeling nostalgic tonight.

Goddfuckingdammit. Out of about two dozen videos that I’d tagged and hoped to save forever, only two videos remain on my list.

Gone - the one video about the kid getting hit in the face.

Gone- White and Nerdy

Gone - That horrible mashup with Little Jon and CrazyTown

Gone - Kiwi. With the Mad World soundtrack.

Gone - that crazy candy Pinata animation thing.

… and so many more. WTF?

The thing is, I can still find many of these videos on YouTube. But why did they disappear from my favorites list?

At least my very favoritest one is stilll there: Cigo Man

Why are you expecting others to preserve important stuff for you? Use a downloader for videos you REALLY want to be able to watch forever.

A really nice YouTube downloader is here: http://www.clipconverter.cc/
No install necessary, just c/p the URL and you’re golden.

Here is the original KIWI! video; your version probably got deleted due to copyright violations. Any video with potential copyright claims has a very short half-life on YouTube.

And you think you’ve got problems – almost every day, 1 or 2 vids go missing from my favorites list, but with over 1,000 favorites it’s impossible to know which ones they were!!

My guess is that the particular YouTube video you saved as a favorite was removed, perhaps due to a copyright violation. But someone else uploaded the same video (or a slightly edited version) and the copyright holder hasn’t noticed the second copy. There is a ridiculous number of repeats on YouTube.

As said, though, download anything you really want to save from YouTube.

Why would you would save them on YouTube rather than downloading them? Because you can’t share downloaded videos without uploading them (and risking copyright strikes yourself).

So what’s really annoying about all that is YouTube doesn’t list the titles, so you can’t easily look for them. I suggest you save a list of videos, and download them if you want a local copy.

What I hate is that the videos that are gone is just this generic “Sorry this video doesn’t exist anymore” template. I don’t even know what video it is! There’s no description of what it was so I can’t look for it again
