Why Did Clarice Do What She Did in "Hannibal"? :spoiler:

Man, that movie was disgusting. And I know that I am probably late on this discussion of it but I just saw it last night.

Anyway, why did Clarice risk her life trying to save Hannibal? I mean with the crimes he committed in the past especially killing fellow cops, shouldn’t she have let the ole hogs hog out on him? That made no sense. Why would she want him back in jail where we have to pay taxes feeding and housing that whaco? And was that an iv hanging on the forklift what was that for?

Second thing that didn’t make sense is how could Hannibal cut the top off that jerky justice dude’s head while he was still awake? I guess alot of local anathesic(sp).

The third thing that didn’t make sense is why Hannibal cut off his own hand instead of Clarices. THAT would not have happened no way I don’t care HOW MUCH he liked her.

She has a seriously over-the-top sense of justice.

That was explained in the movie, the hogs would first chew off his feet, if he wouldn’t have an IV, he would die before the fun was over.

I liked the ending of the book better, that ending turned Hannibal back into a bad guy.

Funny, I rented it and watched it two nights ago myself. Lunch the next day was just bareable considering I kept thinking of fried brain and the kid on the plane enjoying the taste of some of it as well. Bleeeeech!

Y’know, though, I am kind of wondering what brain would taste like…

Pretty much. The brain itself has no nerve endings, so brain surgery is often accomplished with local anesthetic rather than general anesthesia. Some interesting experiments have been performed by poking around in patients’ brains while they are awake and able to report sensations. You can stimulate various centers of the brain and get feedback.

I thought it left the possibility that maybe he cut the cuffs in half with the cleaver, and had his arm wrapped to hide the cuff. Although that would set off the metal detector.

Of course, the cops at the borders who were too stupid to notice Lecter arriving or leaving (like they don’t keep a copy of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list at the friggin’ airport?!!) would probably not notice.

In any case, it was a pretty crappy movie.

Agreed. And thanks for the thoughts.

Hey, if we’re talking spoilers here, we might as well mention that in the book Hannibal hypnotizes Clarise and makes her his love slave and partner in crime.

For some reason, they never got around to filming that ending.

You’re late on the topic, I read the book long before the movie, than saw the movie, and since the movie has been released on video and DVD. Harris did it because it was a different ending than the other two books (/one movie). If he didn’t it would end much like the other two books and therefore be, boring.
