Why did I make these notes?

I just figured it out! It’s to remind you to rev up the dog before the blood flows through the speaker system!

I don’t know much about anything, but last month, at an out of the way yardsale I bought a box of rusty fletching tools. At the bottom of the box I found the following list on the back of a yellowed, flaking envelope. The postmark was dated 1913. As best as I can make it out, this is what it said:

12/18/96 Ahab stole my shoes
9/14/07 boats sink
8/4/00 went to see the elefont
3/15/98 arachnids of a disproportionate size did knock politely at my door and beg entry
8/2/03 I am struck, but not felled
5/22/08 I feel a song coming on …

When I compare this against your post:

12/18/80 Ahab Spears boot
9/14/91 pea green boat obs. ref.
8/4/84 Shot elephant w/ pencil in ear
3/15/82 beer that causes giant spiders to come through walls
8/2/86 Just a flesh wound
double 9/10/86
5/22/91 double

I am constrained to believe that there is a cross-reference here that transcends time and space and may, in some small way, contribute to the confusion that riddles these already confusing times.

Hopefully, with wisdom and guidance, we can make sense of your notes and the cryptic words I discovered and add to the aggregate of Human Knowledge.

Thanks for your contribution.

I thought I recognized the Ahab reference the other day, but this is the first chance I’ve had to come home and check the book. Why you wrote the notes I don’t know, but they definitely refer to Far Side cartoons (although I couldn’t find the pea green boat cartoon or anything on 9/14/91).

I agree. It looks like an attempt to recreate a dream log.

Here’s the caption (9/14/81 per the post up above):

“What do you make of it, Earl?..A small, pea-green boat, drifting way out here - empty, except for those two little skeletons.”

Great job nailing the Far Side references!

As Rowe pointed out, you missed the date correction. I am in awe that you caught the Far Side references and am disappointed in myself for not doing so. There’s another Far Side thread over in CS and I think this is someone trying to tell me that I need to reread my Far Side books.
