This is certainly a relevant question, to this board, and to all of us here who spend time in the sun without a hat on (90% of us?). It is a tough question that is hard to search for, so it provides a challenge to the Dopers. It is short and to the point, so it does not bog down the reader.
I’m not offended that my post got no attention. I am asking this because I think maybe there is something about this posts topic or title that didn’t sit well with the Dopers (only 8 views total), and I would like to know what that is.
Did the board act wierd or go down shortly after you posted?
It’s a rare thread that makes it through GQ without at least one reponse, even the tough ones.
Posts can drop off the first page of GQ mighty quick.
Perhaps you could have given it a second go? For instance, following up with a second post (reply) that linked some of your research and advocated a theory or two.
Berkut & Khadaji: So, that is the response of an average Doper when presented with a tough question: to run the other way?
My main curiosity is why it got no views. No one cares about baldness and sun exposure?
I did some more research and posted a site that said sun exposure causes baldness, so maybe that will start the ball rolling. (I always thought bumps were frowned upon, but I guess this is a good time for one…)
There’s no way to satisfy your curiosity here. We have no way of mind-reading why people didn’t respond.
Ice Wolf’s guess is probably as good as any – threads do move off the front page (or even the second page) fairly quickly in the General Questions forum.
Experienced posters tend NOT to respond to General Questions unless they know. Your comment about “run the other way” is uncalled for. People do not have time to research every question that is posed. What tends to happen in GQ is that IF someone knows an answer, or where to look, they tell you. It is rare that you will find someone willing to spend time doing research for you.
At least, not without financial incentive.
Would you have preferred to have a bunch of people posting bald jokes, with no real information?
And, it seems, you’ve managed to research it on your own. That’s great.
We frown on bumping a thread in general, but on occasion, it’s OK. Our main concern is bumping long-dead threads, rather than trying to ask again (like you were doing.)
