Would dopers be pissed if I just started threads and rarely added posts?

Lately I notice that I have nothing to add to threads I’m reading.

OTOH I probably have about two or three questions a day that pop up that I might like to ask on SDMB, mostly GQ and IMHO. Of course I’d stick around to clarify my question if more info is needed or if it wasn’t clear what I was getting at. And I’d come back to say thanks.

Would that annoy people?

Not too much in those forums, as long as you said thank you, but it would be seen as impolite in GD or the pit.

all IMHO, of course.

This is pretty much Standard Operating Procedure in GQ. There’s really no need to respond to a GQ thread you’ve started for anything more than you’ve mentioned. It wouldn’t be a problem in IMHO either.

As has been said, a certain degree of involvement is expected by the OP in GD and the Pit, but not so much in the other forums.

Not to worry. . . if Dopers are pissed, they’ll let you know.

So if you don’t show up in a thread and someone is expecting you to, you’ll find out soon enough.

Test… after three years away from SDMB.

I disagree. It’s considered impolite to have people answer questions in GQ, especially after doing considerable research, and not thank them for it. Making a habit of it would be noticeable.

If you have time to read the responses, you have time to post a quick “thank you.” That’s all that’s necessary.

Plan B said he would come back to say thanks.

What I meant by “Standard Operating Procedure” is what should be standard. I recognize that the SOP is not followed as often as it might be.

Hey, anyone know what happened to Plan B? He hasn’t posted to this thread since Sunday. Hope he’s okay.
