Why didn't any of you bastards tell me how wonderful DOCTOR WHO is?

I’d love to see Sally Sparrow as a regular companion, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Carey Mulligan’s film career has really taken off in the last couple of years, and her star is still rising. She is set to play Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

I was watchng the Doctor Who fan film “Dalekmania” on Netflix a few nights ago, and discovered something I never knew…

Bernard “Wilf” Cribbins has encountered The Doctor before, no, he wasn’t playing the character of Wilfred Mott, but Bernard Cribbins HAS acted in the Whoniverse previously, he was in the telefilm/movie Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD

Still, Wilf definitely deserved (deserves) to travel with The Doctor more often, I loved the scenes when Wilf first entered the TARDIS, and his expression when he was on the spaceship orbiting Earth, looking down on this insignificant little blue-green planet, a lifelong stargazer finally gets his opportunity to see what’s out there…

barney5_99, please be careful about posting open spoilers in this thread. The OP is new to the show, and isn’t up to date on everything that’s happened. Neither am I, for that matter - your post gave away what appears to be a GIGANTIC plot point from an episode I hadn’t seen. So, you know… thanks for that.

No warning issued.

OMG -I am so sorry I didnt realize what I was doing…
no,I guess i should say I didn’t think through what I was posting..I apologize again, but I was just SO excited when I found this site and found out I wasn’t the only one in the world who LOVES this series

Welcome to the SDMB, barney5_99! You might be interested in this thread, which is our main thread for discussion of this season’s episodes.

Hi Skald - I’ve been away for months, but as a fellow LOtR freak who loves Doctor Who, I’m sorry I didn’t inform you about it’s awesomeness. Now off to read this thread.

I’ve been a friend of The Doctor since the mid 70’s, and yet one of my favorite speeches given by the character is from the 11th Doctor: YouTube video.

Yep, that’s a badass boast for the ages. There are those of us who think it may be the origin point of many of the Doctor’s current troubles.

Explain, please.

Because it went to hell when Martha left.
This being a Skald thread, I posted before reading. My point may have already been made, probably somewhat more eloquently.

I’ve given up on keeping track, but when did Rory stop being plastic? Did wishing it away do it or did the Blue Fairy turn him into a real boy?

The entire universe ended, then was recreated from Amy’s memory - Rory’s no longer plastic, because fleshly Rory is stronger in her memory…also, with the Doctor removed from history until she remembered him back into the universe, there was no adventure on which Rory died, nor one in which an Auton was given his form and memories.

Which part? Sorry, it’s early and I haven’t had coffee yet.

I love his words to Amy in the Musee d’Orsay at the end of Vincent and the Doctor. Can’t find the exact clip, but this is a good summary of the episode anyway:

Is there some kind of original show reference in the Doctor’s request that no one salute him? I’ve seen him tell people not to do it in a couple episodes.

I believe it was “good”, not “important”.
So, it’s got to be either Rory or The Doctor. The Doctor is the waaaaaay obvious choice, so I’m thinking Rory.

We also had an episode called “A good man goes to war”…and the two good men were Rory and The Doctor.
Hey look, a thread where spoiler tags are actually deserved!

Oh, and a non-spoiler for our OP. When you first see Rory you’ll think he’s stupid and useless. Keep an eye on him. He’s pretty awesome.

Not in the new stuff. He’s just as informal by nature.

-Joe

Pretty sure it’s simply because he finds heirarchies general distasteful, and wants people to follow him because he’s clever, not because he’s “in command.”

So Amy is…God?

I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that he *was *in command during the Time Wars, and doesn’t like being reminded of it.

Not quite, though I’m actually going to spoiler box this, because it is significant plot points.

The universe ended when the TARDIS exploded. But the Doctor took the Pandorica into the storm and recreated the universe. That is what made Rory be recreated as human. The Pandorica recreated everything and restored it as if the cracks hadn’t happened, thus restoring Amy’s parents. Amy’s memory only came into play in bringing The Doctor back from nonexistence. He recreated everything else.
