Why do American men have such great reputations amoung foreign women?

? We Americans showed up late, only really fought on the western front, the Soviets did way more on the eastern front tying up massive armies, killing assloads of germans, though we did provide wicked logistical support.

No, despite Hollywood, the US did not singlehandedly win the war.

I’ve read that American soldiers in the UK replied that the British men were just sore because they were underpaid, undersexed and under Eisenhower.

Whee! Zombie thread!

This is probably more suitable for our forum for zombie opinions, IMHZO.

General Questions Zombie

I’m a Sci-fi nerd so when you ask me to think of healthy Asian woman I immediately think Grace Parks.

She’s got a new role in Hawaii five-0, which I haven’t seen yet. Maybe they made her a ninja or something.

You know who I think has it rough? Latinas. They’re always hot-headed pissed off and kinda butch. How did that happen?

And Canada played a minor role in there too.

Women are just built that way, they like men who are taller. I recall a study a while back indicating this is generally true even of women who say (and apparently believe) that they don’t prefer taller men. Take a photo of a man and digitally alter it so he’s taller, and even the women who say they don’t care about height will think better of the taller image.

Wow. For once, the media and I agree on attractiveness!

FTR, I think the woman in this picture is very attractive.

I found a documentary on Japanese zombies.

I got news for you - most Asians nowadays have the opportunity to “eat as well as Americans do.”

Cite please? Tell me how, oh lets keep it simple, the bottom 2/3 of the population of India and China get 3 squares a day, every day, American-style?

I guess it was more the way it was stated in the ads - I got a strong impression that these ladies were accustomed to being surrounded by short men. I was later talking to a female friend who was born and raised in Belarus and attended university in Ukraine, and she confirmed that the men there are generally much shorter than the average American man (though her husband, a native Ukrainian, was taller than me, but then she was also a bit taller than the average woman.)

I really suspect nutrition has a lot to do with it. I work with another young woman from Belarus; she’s the youngest in her family and was an toddler when her family moved here, and she just happens to be the tallest person in her family, something she credits to the simple fact that she got to eat a lot better growing up than the rest of her family did.

Point:Counterpoint

This is it. Definitely it.

American man here. We here in the US tend to take marital fidelity very seriously, and adultery, even once, is a MAJOR social offense that can destroy a marriage very easily. Adultery does happen, and some marriages do survive it, but it is at least an order of magnitude more severe than forgetting a birthday or anniversary or affronting in-laws.

Let’s consider this from the opposite viewpoint. What attracts an American man to a foreign woman? My understanding is that many American men see foreign women as potentially more traditional and submissive than most American women, women who will stay home, cook, clean, and raise children without complaint, and always submits sexually. If the foreign woman is immigrating to the US, there is an additional dependency in that he basically holds the power to deport her at anytime.

Grandpa Simpson, is that you?

D’oh!

Brit here, spent a year teaching in Japan and have lived in the USA for a few years.

I think it is broadly true that women seem more attracted to foreign men; the same doesn’t seem to be true to the same extent in the other case: men aren’t into women purely because they are foreign. If you have an RP British accent in the USA and are reasonably attractive, prepare for hot women to start conversations with you on the slimmest pretext as soon as they hear you talk.

(Ironically enough, I’m a bit of an exception: I find foreign girls very attractive, and what attracted me to my American wife was that she wasn’t overawed with my nationality, and didn’t immediately drone on about ever foreign trip she’d ever taken and every foreigner she’d ever met.)

In Japan, there was a very weird dynamic. Amongst my (white) western friends, the guys definitely did have a lot of luck with the local population. The girls had a much harder time of it.

There seemed to be a few layers to this. First, even in the noughties, the girls seemed to be used to getting hit on rather than doing the hitting. So when the white guys weren’t hitting on them anymore, and the local guys weren’t either (too afraid/language barrier), the western girls were a bit lost. They got it at both ends: they couldn’t get the local guys for various reasons, and they couldn’t get the white guys either, because they were balls deep in the locals.

This led to a certain amount of bitterness on the part of the white girls, who used to mutter that the guys just wanted a subservient doll. Part of this was obviously just defensiveness, but there was a fair amount of truth to it too. Amongst the American and Canadian guys in particular, there were a lot who (openly) wanted a Japanese girlfriend because they were ‘more feminine’, where that was a code for more subservient, etc.

The language barrier was an issue, too: Japanese girls are generally better at English than Japanese boys. So monoglot English white girls had a very limited dating pool.

But what some people have said about the image of western men was true, too. A female Japanese friend of mine told me that they thought North Atlantic men were more likely to buy them flowers, and whatnot.

Although it’s serious, well, it’s common. This is probably a matter of opinion, although I happen to agree with your response, even if it is a response to a 9-year-old post.

Foreign zombies will eat men first. American zombies don’t discriminate, and will devour both sexes at the same time.

This breed of zombieus resurrectus comes with its own sign that says “Ignore, do not feed.” It only gives them power.

To be fair, the US did do a huge amount of fighting in the Pacific. It’s would’ve been hard to get to the Eastern Front with either Germany or Japan in the way.

I get that feeling too, when many people I know in Asia speak of an American man. They are usually referring to a white man, even if they know that technically, all sorts of people can be American by nationality.

In my childhood years, I had spent many summers at my grandparent’s place in Taipei. I remember when I was about 5 years old, I had rehearsed a speech in Mandarin for an assignment in front of my relatives and family friends. It was basically one of those “tell us about yourself” type things, and somewhere in there, I said I was an American. Everybody burst out laughing, like " Bwahaha what the heck are you talking about, lshaw?? You’re not American, you’re Chinese!"

Confused the hell out of the 5 year old me.

And I think I mentioned this before, but I met up with a close friend of mine during last Chinese New Years when I was visiting relatives. She is Taiwanese, and I told her that one of my good guy friends from America had moved to Taipei. She was like, “Do you mean an Asian American or a REAL American?”

Lol, considering that 's your only post here, and on the day of your join date, it’s pretty sure you did a google search about the subject…
