To answer the OP my understanding is that the law in Japan allows porn to be filmed as long as the woman is depicted as not enjoying sex. I assume it’s to allow the guys to get their rocks off but also making sure that they don’t enjoy it too much. That is not true. I can’t post any links here, but there is plenty of Japanese porn that involves women reaching (or pretending to reach) orgasm.

Having observed a good number of Japanese women having sex, both on screen and in my bed, Phase42 makes an important point here. The regular grunting and moaning noises that are common in western porn are just non-existent in J-porn. Instead, the actresses make a more high-pitched squealing noise during sex. In any case it’s a much more nasal sound.

Only on the Straight Dope could a discussion on Asian women in porn NOT devolve into an “Ayjhan girlz r teh hottest!” discussion, but rather evolve into an analysis of nasal tones.

I wouldn’t really call it ‘‘desensitization’’ per se, but the more women have intercourse, the less likely they are to have pain from being too tight. Things really do get looser down there, and more accustomed to a good, hard dicking. I don’t really think it’s too far off base to suggest that women who have sex more often would be more physically comfortable with it.

You should read this thread for a variety of comments on the subject.

Of course, “more comfortable” is not the same thing as "desensitized’ by any stretch of the language, pardon the pun.

I know this sounds weird and I’m desperately searching for some evidence but (anecdotally) I’ve read this in more than one place.

As for how that reflects reality, all the Japanese girlfriends I’ve had have made similar noises, albeit at lower volume, during sex. None of them were young, inexperienced little girls, and they were all enjoying themselves (at least that’s what they said). None of them made lower-pitched moans So, do they sound like that in bed because it’s what they think they should sound like from seeing porn, or do porn actresses sound like that because that’s what everyone already sounds like anyway (just more exaggerated)?

Anecdotally I can report firsthand that during sex, many (if not all) Japanese girls make noises like a puppy being stepped on. It’s not just sex either… the voice seems to jump an octave and go all whiny in response to any kind of excitement, anger, fear, etc. I’m not really sure why this is, but I notice that Japanese people like to soften any “real” interaction in order to minimize conflict or confrontation. So going all goo-goo childlike is the safe way to express extreme emotions. This way the sentiment is registered in a way that can be safely disregarded if necessary. That’s just my theory, anyway.
