I discovered this fact while looking for my cordless dremel to clean off my exhaust pipe, Which I never did find. I guess this is the side-effect of never talking to my dad and always giving each other tools every year for christmas and birthdays. Anybody willing to trade me a cordless dremel for 2 vice grips, a channel lock and a needlenose to be named later?
To make matters worse, you just know that some day in the near future you’ll find yourself locked out of your truck, the window will be cracked open just enough, you will just happen to have a wire hanger in your possesion, and all you lack is something to trim off the curley end of the wire and fashion it into a sharp enough hook to either snag the keys from the ignition or snag the door release.
Hah! My dad worked for a tool manufacturer for over 30 years, and I inherited his collection. I have over 400 screwdrivers! I have 3 drawers for tools the function of which I don’t fathom in the least. I have 3 six-foot tall Snap-On rolling toolchests to hold them all in! And no aptitude towards home fixit stuff at all!
It is a set of pliers that has a wide grip and deep groves in the plier heads. They are designed to put a ring through a hogs nose so it wont root anymore. The ring is kind of like a staple in that it has pointed ends, but are seperated into a gap where the ends are facing each other. The ring, when set into the grooves is held perfectly for forcing through the nose. There are a lot of things called hogs ring pliers, from uphostery pliers to pliers for just closing a fencing staple. But mine are the actual pliers for ringing a hog, and as I mentioned before I honestly have no idea why I have these, or why I know so much about them.
booker, I had the local Snap-On Tool dealer over to try and figure them out! Dad salvaged a lot of tools from sunken ships in the Great Lakes and on the East Coast during his mis-spent youth.
Qadgop, you sound like a prime “Garage sale” candidate!
My husband is a total tool freak - hand tools and power tools. He came to bed one night wearing a “Will Work for Bandsaw” sign - a subtle hint before Christmas, as I recall. When he moved aboard the boat, he took a full set of good tools with him, and left me with a full set of crap. And for her last birthday and for Christmas, he gave our Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] her first tool box, starting her with the basics. I think she’s getting a cordless drill for her next b-day. Meanwhile, the cordless drill he left with me died a miserable death yesterday.
YES! Dremels are one of the greatest and must versitile tools around. You can grind a little nub off of somthing, Or engrave fairly accurately. I even have the little router assembly for my dremel, even though it’s really not that usefull. And right now, the reason I’m looking for my little Dremel. I need to clean some of the rust off my tailpipe so I can get some epoxy to bind. I can through a little fine grinder on there, and clean it off in about 5 minutes. Otherwise I’d have to sand or steel-wool by hand, which is likely to take over and hour. And the number one use of a dremel is to cut off bolts or screws that are striiped beyond repair. A 20 second job with the cutting disc, and the head is off, and the shaft is ready to be knocked out.
I only have 52 Screwdrivers, I must close the screwdriver gap with QTM, to maintain my position in the world.
I’ve been working in broadcast engineering for the better part of 25 years now. How many connecter crimpers would you like? Do you crimp Kings RG-59 connectors? How about Panduit RJ-45’s? I know you want a crimper / cable corer combo tool used to install weather-tight connectors on to .750" cable TV hardline…
Let’s not even TALK about the Torx tools, or the multi-meters, or the cable and wire strippers …
and yes, as a matter of fact, you MAY bow down to my utter greatness.
(or is that udder greatness - I always get those two mixed up … the cows bother me.)
I love crimpers. Dad’s an “engineer” for SBC (formerly Ameritech (formerly Illinois Bell (formerly Bell Telephone))) and he’s passed onto me quite a supply of crimpers. I especially enjoy the ones that snap shut the new quick locking weathertight gel filled connectors. I’ve got to discoved what they are exactly called, I like crimping them just for fun…
I just want to make sure none of these “pliers” are dikes (wire cutters), you mention of the wie-stripping groove and its makes me suspicious. Little pet peeve of mine.
