I started checking SD on my phone and noticed the square profile images by people’s names; this doesn’t show up when I use Chrome on my Windows7 desktop. Is this normal or is there something I need to troubleshoot?

They show up in Firefox and Internet Explorer, but not Chrome.

I just tested it on Chrome Version 71.0.3578.98 (the latest non-beta version) on Windows 7 and the avatars show up ok for me. What version of Chrome are you using?
Go under your user control panel (UserCP on the upper left) and select Edit Options on the left, then scroll about halfway down and make sure Show Avatars is checked.
ETA: You might also try logging out and logging back in. If they still aren’t visible then maybe try clearing your cache.
Do you have any add-ons installed that might be interfering with the images?
