Why do my socks creep down when I wear these particular shoes?

If this has never happened to you, you’re lucky. Sometimes, even though I’m wearing good quality above-the-calf dress socks, they will gradually creep down toward my toes, starting at the heel, until they’ve bunched up into my shoe.

Maddening.

It tends to happen only with loafers.

Surely there’s been some legitimate scientific research into this question. Help me, Cecil!

Don’t know about any research, but common sense tells me that loafers aren’t held as securely as laced shoes so there will be a little more movement of the shoe relative to the foot. Eventually this repeated motion will coax the sock down, a teeny bit at a time.

Two words: sock garters. Yes, you can still buy them.

(Sorry, I’m a solutions-oriented person more than an information-oriented person.)
