Now that’s what I like to hear. Though next time, just capitulate after my first post. Things will go easier for you that way.
This is a good thread, but you know what it needs? I’ll tell you what it needs. More. cowbell.
Ringo once did terrible things to my dog with a fork, and I still love the Beatles. So there.
And here we get to the core of the OP. There is a difference between subjective opinions - “I don’t like Ringo’s drumming or John and Paul’s harmonies” vs. “both were terrible.”
I assert you are wrong - egregiously - on both counts. As a practicing, paid musician who spends a LOT of time with other musicians, professional, charting musicians and amateurs - I simply have to say you are flat-out incorrect. Again you are welcome to say YOU don’t like them, but to state that they were bad robs you of all credibility.
Per the OP, I am not upset about this - I respect the fact that many folks don’t like the Beatles; cool by me - but the wording of your statement makes you sound like a fool.
I like black metal, and anyone who doesn’t like it should be flayed, forced to swallow their intestines, hung upside-down on a cross, covered with goat’s blood and set on fire, so I can record their screams for the opening track of my next album, Malappropriated Blasphemous Invertebrations.

Wow, so you’re with the group Festering Autopsy Leavings? You guys are great!!
I liked their demo, but they’ve sold out now.
As another working professional musician, I would say your opinion is badly-worded and indicates you may not know as much as you may think about what it takes to be a successful and tasteful rhythm section player or a harmony singer. Just try playing bass (like I do) or drums and singing lead at the same time. Think it’s easy?..it’s freakin’ hard, and McCartney does it with ease. Wish I could do it that well and I’ve been trying 30+ years. If you don’t like a group, say so - don’t talk about musicianship unless you can back it up with some useful criticism.
**Philliam **I don’t think you quoted who you meant to quote there.
So which is it? You’re upset that no one likes the bands you like, but when they “sell out” you complain that all of a sudden your secret band is listened to by someone else than you and your roommate? That must be pretty hard.
I think Philliam was quoting WordMan in order to agree with him and add to what he said in response to Steophan, but yeah, it’s confusing.
Confused me, but your take makes sense.
Forgive me, but I’m still LOL’ing over someone actually thinking the Beatles were from the 50s. It’s not like they are an iconic part of 60s culture or anything…rofl.
What’s next? Duran Duran are from the 18th century? Lily Allen had a hit in 1965 (20 years before she was born!)
It really is taking longer than we thought!
Ooops…my bad.
I was attempting to Quote the whole Steophan/Wordman post to show my agreement with Wordman’s take on personal dislike vs. playing ability. If I played as ineptly as I post, I’d never get a gig.
Wordman said it better than I did, anyway.
You know I’ve always wondered the same thing. I personally love black metal. I get immersed in it, but I can see why someone else might not like it.
