Why do summer colds hang on so long?

I’ve been sick for over two weeks now. I don’t think it will ever go away. At this point I wish Phil Spector would take me home and shoot me.

Why are summer colds like this?

I’m no doctor but I have some experience with the immune system due to an autoimmune condition I have. Are you treating it? The medicine you are using might not be strong enough.

Otherwise, my guess is that your immune system is simply not doing an adequate job. The bug you have may be tougher than your body can handle. After two weeks, I’d be seeking medical help. It might not be a ‘cold,’ per se.

First of all, there is no way to treat a cold. It is a virus. There is no off the counter medications to kill viruses. You can treat the symptoms but not the pathogen. For any virus, you’ve got to let your immune system build up antibodies against it.

Secondly, I would like to see evidence that summer colds hang on longer. They may be more uncomfortable but in my experience they last as long as other colds.

You may have caught a particularly nasty one this time. Summer colds are the worst. Give it time and you’ll get better.

Summer colds are the worst? Maybe they’re the worst because while you’re all stuffed up, you’re friends are out at the beach kickin’ it. Otherwise, a cold is a cold. I’ve had colds last 3 weeks in the cold seasons. It’s not like the Virii are ramping up production and plotting how to make it really bad for you “this summer”.

That’s what I meant. Next time I’ll use words to express my thoughts.

Nah, you did fine. I’m just speaking in general.

Yeah, that’s true, but old ‘remedies’ is a multi-billion dollar enterprise, yes?

The point is that after two weeks, it may not be a cold. Colds and flu share some

symptoms.
