Why Do They Put Bergamot In Earl Grey Tea?

That’s essentially what I was going to say. Bergamot is the defining factor that makes it Earl Grey Tea, instead of just black tea.

What is the purpose of adding Bergamot to the Black Tea to begin with? And where did the tradition originate, for that matter? Did a man named Earl Grey have anything to do with it? I’m serious.

The purpose of putting oil of bergamot in Earl Grey tea is to give it the aroma and flavor of oil of bergamot. Without it. It would just be plain black tea.
