First off, good for you! I admire people who don’t drink. It takes a strong will that I just don’t have.
I never drank until I got to college, second semester. At first, I did it just to get drunk. That way, I could forget about all the crap that was going on in my life. But latter, I found alcohol that actually tasted good to me. Most beers I hate, but Corona and other lighter beers taste good, no bitter aftertaste. I also enjoy Champange a lot, as well, but not wine. I have hated every wine I have had, with the exception of wine coolers and MD 20/20, which is wine flavored with other fruits (hmmm…just like a wine cooler, only 15% alcohol!)
If you don’t want to drink, don’t. You shouldn’t feel like you have to find alcohol you like just so you can drink. Trust me, alcohol is ont neccesary in life.
Opal, I hope you know that I was only joking when I suggested I might take this to the Pit. I mean no offense in my defense of beer.
The irony is that one of the ingredients and main flavors of beer is malted barley, which is very sweet. Perhaps you don’t like the flavor of malt. Do you not like Malted Milk Balls or Chocolate Malts or malt flavored Ovaltine? Malt Extract is what Kanga gives to Baby Roo for “strengthening” and is Tigger’s favorite food.
I sometimes get into a trap of attempting to convince people to taste different beers because I find it difficult to believe that they can’t find one they like. The world of beer is so vast with so many different flavor combinations, I feel like you’re missing out on something wonderful if you don’t try to find one you like. I want to disassociate “Beer” with the Bud-Miller-Coors swill. So I recommend other, more flavorful and better brews. Have you tried Bass Ale or Celis White? How about any dunkel weissens or Chimay?
I guess I’ll stop evangelizing now. Sorry for the hijack.
