Why does CCleaner update so frequently?

CCleaner seems to constantly nag about updating. At least once every month or so.

Why? What is changing? It’s just clearing the browser cache, recent history, emptying the recycle bin and so on. What changes in FireFox, Chrome or IE that requires regular CCleaner updates?

Is it doing something more dynamic that I’m not aware of?

I love the software and it’s set to run every time the pc reboots. But those update me please, nag screens get old.

One issue updating CCleaner is all the spam buttons on the filehippo download page. You really got to pay attention to what you click. Then during the install there’s a Ask toolbar install that you got to unclick. If you’re tired or in a hurry you can blast past that and then you got a mess trying to get rid of Ask. It screwed up my mom’s pc to the point I had to do a restore to the last checkpoint on her pc. I’ve learned to hate that Ask toolbar. It’s hiding in so many installers.

I always assumed that CCleaner needed updates to keep it up to date with all the must have vs crapware lines in its registry cleaner function.

I update direct from the manufacturer web site. No spam buttons. Download and install with no issues.

You could just check the change log. It’s not a secret.

Looks like the updates are indeed monthly, and usually due to adding new applications to their database and minor bug fixes/feature changes.

I only assume they do it so much so that you get tired of it and pay for the auto updating.
It doesn’t clean any new virus or crapware only cleans out all the excess junk on your PC.
I’m probably wrong but it does make sense.I think its a GREAT program and the price is right. FREE. Another good free program that doesn’t get much attention anymore is SPYBLASTER. It has the same option as CCleaner manual updating or pay for auto updating. It does"t run in background, It can be ran with any other virus or spyware protector, and it uses no CPU’s or Ram…Once you set it forget it.

I think you mean SpywareBlaster?

I agree, great program.
