I have two fingers that are swollen-up due to drug-induced angioedema. For the most part, there’s no major pain or itchiness–just redness, tenderness, and puffiness. They aren’t quite the size of hotdogs, but that’s kind of how they feel.
However, during the five or so days that I’ve had this, there is a part of the day where I’m guaranteed to have the most horrible itchiness ever. It happens like clockwork, lasting about an hour. It gets so bad I start having visions of cutting off my fingers and squeezing the itchy juices out of them. Today I was in yoga when the itchiness came, and it was so bad I couldn’t concentrate.
Why does this happen? It seems like either I’d have no itchiness at all or constant itchiness, but not off-and-on itchiness. And why should it happen at the same time of day, no matter what I’m doing? It’s crazy.
(I am taking a little vacation from the medication that’s causing the reaction and crossing my fingers, as best as I can, that the swelling will go down.)
