I listen primarily to AM radio in my car (don’t ask me why, but music drives me nuts). At two distinct times during the year (now and mid-spring) the radio will become very static-y, remain so for approximately one month, and then return to normal.
But this is no normal static…it mimics the sound of the engine. IOW, as the engine RPM increases, the pitch of the static increases. Also, it will occasionally disappear and reappear as I hit bumps in the road or turn hard to the left. Initially, this led me to believe it was some sort of loose connection somewhere, but as I mentioned, it only happens at these two specific times of year and mysteriously vanishes after a month or so.
If all of this isn’t strange enough, it completely vanishes if I pop the hood to where it’s open, but still latched. Open the hood any further than this, and it comes back.
If it helps at all, it’s a 1995 Nissan pickup with the stock AM/FM cassette stereo and the static is evident on the AM band only.
Any thoughts?
