When I come home from work my cat is incredibly affectionite. She jumps in my lap, cuddles, licks mem purrs. At some point I have to get up. When I lean to one side and start to get up she doesn’t get the hint so I slowly and gently pick her up and put her on the floor. As soon as I place her on the floor her ears slick back and she snaps at me. Doesn’t really bite hard but she is clearly pissed off. I should mention she likes being held and is fine with being picked up by everyone. It is just when put her down after a a petting and cuddle session. I can’t understand how she can go total contentment to full blown anger because I put her down. Usually after a minute or two she is back to normal.
The answer, as always, is: because she is a cat.
and cats are weird.
Unless of course, she’s full-blown, batshit crazy.
One of my cats decided to walk across my laptop last night, inadvertantly sending a half finished email to a client. I know, I know. With cats in the house, recipient’s email address should always be typed LAST. :smack:
Did the cat type anything embarrassing before sending the email?
Maybe she’s ticked off because she isn’t done being patted and cuddled? You’re interrupting her Happy Kitty Time by daring to get up and do something else.
Your lap is her territory. It’s the top of the hill, soft, warm, best, spot to lay on. She does not see it as part of your body. You don’t own it, she does.
You moving her off is akin to another animal trying to take her spot, and she fights for it.
She isn’t done with pettings yet. Trust me, when she is done she will let you know.
My younger cat does almost the same thing. He doesn’t snap at me but I have to be almost vertical in standing up before he jumps off. Five seconds later though he is fine again.
Spllchk iz fer pusies
Er, I think that is “cats IS weird.”
In either case that is true.
My cat has a similar issue. The bed is her place. She defends it against all of the other cats and when I lay down, it’s cuddle-cuddle-happy-times. God forbid I have to get back up before she’s sound asleep.
She chases behind me and BITES MY ANKLES.
It has to be that we’re interrupting their happy kitty time with some clearly less important task.
Because she isn’t done.
Something about liking to have sex with sheep…
Try this, have a ball of yarn or crumple up some newspaper and throw it. The cat will probably jump off your lap and chase it. If not get some kitty treats and give her one and throw one. She’ll jump off your lap to get it.
Then she won’t be mad.
Dogs are similiar. My neighbor has two dogs, one young one and one old one. The old one is so laid back and relaxed (except for the mailman which he hates) and even if I put food in front of the two dog. The young one will simply push the old one out of the way and eat his food too. And the older dog is like “Oh well that’s life.”
But if you let them out, they play together for about 10 minutes than the old guy just quits and goes to the gate and sits down and watches the world go by. Every once in awhile the younger dog will try to continue their play. This lasts for 30 seconds then the old guy turns vicious for 10 seconds and makes it clear to the young one, as far as he’s concerned play time is OVER.
Then the younger dog retreats and all is right with the world again.
