Why does my hand shake so?

OK this is not not normal , but somehow my hands(palms) shake a lot more than normal ppl. It’s not bad as parkinson’s. I can do eveything what ppl can do . The only problem is sometimes it very visible and it’s really annoying when ppl point it out. Can someone tell me whats wrong with me. And the shaking is surely not cause I’m nervous or something like that.

There are a whole number of reasons your hand could shake. If it’s bothering you and interfering with your daily life, go to the doctor.

A lot of times there is no reason for shaky hands. That’s just the way people are. But I would rather know that than suffer with it, especially if there is a treatable condition.

I went to the doctor and he said it was a nothing. BUt its very annoying and want to kniw what it is!! and who else to turn to but the SDMB!!

IANAMD and one will probably come along, but in the meantime, let me ask you some questions. When did you first notice the tremor? Is it a rapid or a slow tremor? A doctor may have other questions. It sounds, however, what is called an “essential tremor.” This is a fine tremor, is benign, and familial.

the tremor really became apparent to a lot of ppl around 2 yrs back. The tremor comes when ever it feels like and i cant do anyting to stop it.The tremor is like when you are nervous and you go to shake someones hand and its shaking a bit more than it shoul and it is apparent to everyone

Just from the little you’ve said, it sounds like your tremor is hyperactive, which is to say it occurs when you are using the appendage in question, and is typical of essential tremor. Parkinson’s exhibits hypoactive tremor, i.e., it occurs when you are not trying to use that appendage.

And there are other things it could be. If your doctor says it’s nothing, find a doctor who is familiar with essential tremor (try with a GP before you crank up the neurologists). Search Google and you’ll find info as well as message boards where you can inquire about physicians.

I have ET and my doctor recognized it; I take propranolol to good effect. It’s not “nothing” and I can get a little riled just sittin’ here thinking about your doctor dismissing at such. See another physician.

Good luck!
