This started around when the SDMB went to paid subscriptions.
If I scroll the Straight Dope up so that the blue Straight Dope log is displayed on my screen, the entire screen starts flashing like a strobe light. Hitting the down arrow until the logo is NOT showing makes it all work just fine.
My laptop screen does not flash at any other Web site or with any other program. Just the SDMB. And just when the logo is showing. The whole screen flashes, not just the client area of the browser.
If the browser window is not maximized, it doesn’t flash. I can show the SDMB logo just fine in a less-than-full-screen area.
This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. Any ideas?
Ahhhh… very good… I see that you have acquired a subscription as we planned. Did the flashing screen effect this decision? If so, the hypnotist has been paid good money…
…
But seriously, I can’t imagine why that would happen. Never heard of anything like it either.
Are you in an office with fluorscent lights? Try turning the light off. Does the logo still strobe? If it does change your video display color settings to 16 million colors from 64,000 colors. If it still strobes … I’m out of ammo.
I would suggest display refresh rate issues but unless it’s an old laptop, modern notebooks should have a sufficient refresh rate to prevent this, and strobing would occur on all pages not just the SDMB.
