I have my voice dial setup for a few of my friends. Its pretty nice, dont’ have to remember their numbers, just say their names. Well, when I set it up, I set my girlfriends name to “Katy” and when prompted to pronounce her name the way I want to refer to it, I pronounced “Katy”.
Well, today, I picked up my phone, hit the voice dial button and playfully said “Jesus” and it accepted this and dialed my girlfriends phone. I thought that was funny. I then repeated it but instead of “Jesus”, I said “Satan”. Once again, it accepted the improper name and dialed her number.
I’ve tried several words that sound like jesus and satan but none of them trigger it.
The voice recognition is probably using a branching algorithm to do a “best match” comparison to those in your phone book. I can’t know its exact logic but I can take an educated guess being a systems consultant.
The key factor is that “Jesus” and “Satan” have two syllables like “Katy”. There is also a long vowel sound in first syllable.
The system merely assigns points based on matching criteria and these two criteria would rank near the top. The name entry with the most points wins and her name probably wins with these two matching traits.
If you post the names of the other people, we can certainly figure it out if that information doesn’t narrow down people you have on the list enough.
Nope, it doesn’t do that. I’ve tried all kinds of words and none of em pop up.
The only other word that creates a false positive, and I wish I was making this up, is “God”. Whenever I say “God” it rings up my best friend “Ali”. I recorded “Ali” pretty fast but I can say “God” fairly slow and it still does it.
So, if I want my girlfriend, whom my bestfriend dislikes, I can say “Jesus” or “Satan”
but if I want my bestfriend, whom my girlfriend dislikes, I can say “God”
Maybe Verizon is trying to push religion on me and pit these two people agianst each other???
I would venture to say that they have probably invented an artificial intelligence system that is unlike any other. I keep abreast of these things but something could have slipped by.
It is probably using using the concept of “memes” to represent your girlfriend and your friend within the phone. These are abstract ideas that aren’t easy to map to human words but can be represented in more abstract forms.
I can easily see how your girlfriend can represent both the Messiah and evil incarnate at the same time and the system seems to be picking up on that.
Likewise, I can see how a friend could present wisdom and presense that is not of this universe.
The system seems to be translating this universal knowledge into practical applications that you can tap into and trying to guide you along the way.
A friend of mine said something like “butthole” or “douchebag” into his phone and it called his girlfriend.
We all laughed.
Voice recognition software is far from perfect. The software probably gives priority to often called numbers, possibly based on the level of voice stress and/or degree of inflection.
