Moving into a new apartment, I managed to scuff a wall with some furniture. In order to conceal this misdeed, I asked the landlord for some of the paint that had been used in the apartment (brand new building) and applied it to cover up. However, the new paint appears to be much lighter. I know paint darkens as it dries, but its been a couple of hours now and it still does not match. This is interior latex semi gloss, btw.
How old is the original paint? Could it be dirty? Also perhaps the touchup paint isn’t part of the original batch so the colour is slightly different, or perhaps the landlord gave you the wrong paint all together.
The paint on the wall is brand new. Probably less than a month old. I can’t rule out that he gave me the wrong paint. Multiple coats wouldn’t have a chance of working, would it?
I think I’ve figured it out. I’m sure the wall was originally painted with a roller, but I used a brush to touch up this spot. I can barely tell the difference from head on, but viewing the spot from an angle makes it clear as day. I guess I will be buying a roller tomorrow…
I would also wait at least 12 hours before deciding it’s the wrong color. Pain that feels dry to the touch isn’t alway cured.
