Why doesn't anybody want to go to the Philharmonic with me?

It’s so sad - I got season’s tickets for me and the boyfriend, and for the second damned time he can’t go. They’re doing a live version of his show tomorrow and they need to set up, and he promised he’d go to the roller derby and he feels he has to go because they appeared on the show and were really gracious and allowed them to shoot at their training facility and etc., etc., etc. Well, fine.

But can NOBODY else go? I’ve asked probably forty people - friends, acquaintances, coworkers. Now, I know it’s Saturday night. I know a lot of us are working until 6 and that it’s cold and rainy. But it’s free! I’m starting to think they don’t like me. :frowning:

I don’t know if I’m even going to go myself, I feel so down about the whole thing (and it’s cold and may be raining and the boyfriend’s van is broken so he has my car and I’m in the convertible and it leaks.) It’s the suck.

What are they playing?

Probably everyone is suffering from overbookeditis, and just can’t cram one more thing in. And they’re uncultured swine.

I would love to hear lovely orchestral music live; it’s been years since I’ve been and even more years since I attended regularly. Too bad they put South Carolina so far from Kentucky.

Aw, that sucks. I’d jump on the chance for a free ticket to the symphony with a friend or colleague. Sounds like a fun night! Probably what Ellen Cherry said; people are just overbooked or can’t make it on short notice. Or maybe it’s just a composer they personally hate, or something. You should totally still go by yourself! I’ve had a great time at concerts that I attended solo before.

I would love to go. Sounds like a lot of fun!

However you appear to be a thousand miles away, and I’m not superman.

You’re in S.C., right? There’s your problem right there

(I’m from S.C., I can say those things)

This comes from a guy who used to go to senior recitals at (then) West Georgia College just to hear some of those wonderful works a student had to perform in order to get his/her degree.

Not only was it free and I got to attend the post-performance wine and cheese party, but it was also a very relaxing evening for me.

It was the only way I would ever wear a coat (with elbow patches, of course) and tie, unless I was going somewhere which required such attire.

If I lived closer, I would love to accept your kind invitation!

Thanks

Quasi

Actually, it was - turns out there’s a football game tonight. I wish SOMEBODY would have told me that - I went the whole day thinking everybody secretly hated me!

I didn’t go, by the way. :frowning: I feel bad about it, too.

I’m sorry you missed the symphony. :frowning: I would have loved to go to a philharmonic concert with someone. My favorite radio station is NPR, and I don’t turn it on until all the talky stuff is over for the day. Too bad I’m way to far away to be your concert buddy.
