Why doesn't the bus run down Kedzie (chgo dopers)

On the south side of Chicago the bus runs down Kedzie. It is the main street and busy.

But up north it run on Kimball. Why?
Kedzie is bigger.

A long time ago, in the time of dinosaurs, the bus did run on North Kedzie. It was discontinued as a cost cutting measure. The rationale was we did not need 2 bus lines so close together --Kimball is only 2 blocks away.

What peri said plus there are stations of the Blue Line and the Brown Line (a terminal no less) on Kimball so it makes sense to have a transfer point there.

Raise your hand if you came into the thread wondering who “Kedzie” is and why Chicago dopers hate her so much they want the bus to run her down…

::Raises hand::

But why not have the bus run down Kedzie the BUSY and BIG street. And then just turn right before Kimball.

To keep it from getting too big and too busy?

In San Francisco, there are a few bus lines running parallel to busy streets (the 29 || Ocean Ave comes to mind). If Ocean had the 29 line, in addition to the streetcars it does have, it would be impossible to navigate, doubly so with the traffic nightmare City College causes, triply so with all the construction that’s going on.

Troy makes sense but the thing is Kedzie IS a major street. In places like Kedzie Blvd in Logan Sq it is as wide as Michigan Avenue.

In Chicago every 800 is one mile. So Ashland Avenue is 1600W which means it is 2 miles west of State the dividing street.

Start at Ashland Ave at 1600 W
has bus big street.

Damon Ave 2000 W has bus and is a big street.

Western Avenue(has a bus) is big and at 2400W

California Ave (has bus) and at 2800W

So now Kedzie is at 3200W and is a big street but they skip it. And go to Kimball which is at 3400W and has bus. No bus on Kedzie on the north side.

Pulaski is the next street at 4000W and has bus.

So it is off. The north south busses run every 4 blocks (every 400 addresses. So why not go down the big street Kedzie.

Also the Logan Square Blue line is on Kedzie and the Brown line not only has a Kimball station but a Kedzie one too.

Well, no bus runs down Kimball on the South side because there is no Kimball. (It’s Homan Ave.) And no bus runs down Pulaski on the south side because there is no Pulaski. (It’s Crawford.)
