Thanks. That’s the sort of straightforward answer I’ve come to expect from you. As I said somewhere, I may get there. Not there yet.
Yep. And that’s the attitude that loses elections. Do continue with it. Good luck.
I hate to harsh your buzz, but if I were you, I wouldn’t get too comfortable with the outcome you think you’ve achieved in this round. I think you’ll find your ‘reality’ isn’t what it seems.
If we are all just brains in a jar, I for one want a better jar.

This is the problem I see with the right. Winning elections isn’t the goal, it’s the means to the goal. The Presidency isn’t the Super Bowl - you win it, and that’s that till next time. You’re supposed to actually DO something as President.
And that “something” is supposed to be good for the country, not your own bottom line. Trump and his supporters are acting like “being President” is the whole point. Like it is some “king for a day” job, and everyone is supposed to go along with whatever you say no matter what. Anybody with a modicum of political intelligence knows the world doesn’t work that way. Too bad 46% of this country doesn’t have that modicum.
Trump seems determined to turn this country into an oligarchy. He wants to use the presidency to make himself richer, like his pal Putin did. And his supporters seem to be fine with that. Why they do is the question of the thread, and no one seems willing or able to answer.
And look how well it works in Russia. There’s basically no free press, no rule of law, anymore. It’s Stalinist USSR in all but name. Cross The Shirtless Wonder and end up in jail, or dead. If we’re not careful, we’ll end up like that. Or, more scarily, like Venezuela!
See my “For Posterity” thread. I am so tired of Chicken Littles.
According to whom?
No, the question of this thread is “how could you vote for someone who is so childish?!?” which is basically guaranteed not to get real answers from actual Trump supporters.
- Being born in America.
- Being at least thirty-five years old.
- Getting the majority of votes.
Two out of three is close enough. Trump’s good to go.
Okay, seriously, I think it’s obvious this thread isn’t about whether Trump meets the legal qualifications to be President; he does. It’s about whether Trump has the abilities that make a person capable of being a competent President.
Common sense? A set of moral values?
The OP asked the question in a very civil way (you rephrased it to make a point–I get that). “Because the way you asked the question hurt my feelings” isn’t a good reason not to answer.
Anyway, you’re a Trump supporter, aren’t you? Can you answer the question? If the question is intrinsically offensive because you don’t think he is childish/immature, then just say so. If you believe in him and think he’s getting unfairly bashed, say that, too. If you’d rather not, I can certainly understand being too embarrassed to have this conversation.
I’m not going to try to predict the specifics of Trump’s major fails as POTUS or what specific damage it will cause the nation or the world. The reason I won’t do so isn’t because I lack certainty that he will but because he’s such a loose cannon that it’s impossible to predict what specific damage he’ll cause from one day/tweet to the next.
But this thread isn’t about what damage he’s likely to cause. It’s about his inherent lack of fitness for the job and the “childish” behaviour he has exhibited to date. Defend or ignore it as you wish, to help justify your own reality.
More specifically: *is he too **immature *to be a competent President?
Surely no one is going to ask for a cite on his immaturity? All you have to do is look at any paper/media outlet every single day.
You think his behavior is childish. I don’t. A lot of people think he’s stupid. I think it’s stupid to think that. Why is your opinion more valid than mine? Because you think you’re right and I’m wrong? That’s tautological.
Again, “immaturity” is in the eye of the beholder. In other words, it’s an opinion, not a fact.
Where you see “immaturity” I see a highly effective technique that utterly overwhelmed his opponents. His very “adult” opponents. Seventeen highly skilled politicians who trained for it all their lives. Demolished by the technique that you consider “childish”.
Wow. Well, thank you for coming out and saying that you don’t think he is childish. Okay. Now we’re gettin’ somewhere.
So… to you, 3 AM tweets on foreign policy are “a highly effective technique”? And the intent would be… is it that Madman Nixon thing that some have mentioned?
You probably ridiculed Trump’s “immaturity” for more than a year and were utterly convinced that he was going to lose in a landslide and in the process destroy the Republican party as well. Right?
There are countless examples and I’m not about to catalog them all. But allow me to link the following for your consideration (tl;dr: write things down and send them by courier)
Yeah. A lot of people think he’s stupid. Why don’t you?
Therein lies your argument’s flaw.
For someone you believe to be childish, how do you explain his success in business? How do you explain his winning the Presidency? Are you sure you’re not still in denial?
I’m not saying you’re wrong; I am saying that you need to prove your assertion.
Ford cancels Mexico plant. Will create 700 U.S. jobs in ‘vote of confidence’ in Trump
That silly immature Trump and his silly tweets at 3AM…
Give a guy a chance! I’m not here 24/7, you know.
Of course there’s a defense, although it’s one that you won’t accept. He isn’t childish. Is it really likely that a childish person would confound all the pundits and campaign successfully for the Republication nomination and the Presidency?
You might reply that his success owes much to the profound stupidity of the Democratic campaign and the abysmal quality of their nominee and I admit he can’t take all the credit. But he did enough to prove that he was an astute politician, which isn’t really a childlike attribute, now is it?
So yes, there is a defense and a good one. Convincing liberals of it is quite another matter, but then thankfully I don’t have to. I have offered my defense, do with it what you will.
