Men wear gold, silver and yes, turquoise on occasions, why not pearls?
Oyster vomit.
Australian swimming legend Ian Thorpe began designing men’s pearl jewellery a few years ago. You see them about down here.
I can never find any to go with my purse.
I’ve known several guys that have been seen in a “pearl necklace” from time to time, but they rarely wear it out in public.
I’d wear a single drop-pearl earing with Elizabethans, and my next doublet will have pearls sewn all over it.
AFAIK men wore pearls and continue to do so, just not in the same places women do/did. Pearl shirt studs and cuff links, for example. If men were to start wearing pearl chokers, my personal feeling based on how awful puka shell chokers look is that they would look ridiculous.
I’m amused just thinking of that old Glenn Miller classic, “A String Of Oyster Vomit.”
I like the lumpy, rougher looking freshwater pearls, many pictures of which can be found on this site. Don’t tell Otto, but I could even wear a choker made out of say, a single string of 'em.
Among young urban males, there is a bit of a trend right now to wear long, nearly knee-length pearl necklaces (presumeably fake).
Yahtzee!
