Why don't people develop allergies to beef and chicken?

You hear about dairy allergies, seafood allergies, allergies to berries, corn, wheat, peanuts… but I can’t ever remember hearing about someone with an allergy to beef or chicken. Or pork, for that matter. Why no meat allergies? Or if there is such a thing, why is it so rare? (No pun intended.)

My skin prick test came back positive for pork, so my allergist said not to eat it more than once a week. So, meat allergies/intolerances do occur.

I know someone allergic to pork. I don’t know what happens to him if he eats it, though. He certainly eats all other meats.

My husband is allergic to beef, and he tested borderline for chicken. It does exist. It’s just apparently very rare.

My WAG would be that the closer you get to human tissue, the rarer an allergy would be. That would get you close to being allergic to yourself.

Bumping this because while I do appreciate the anecdotal evidence and WAG, I feel there is still a wild GQ waiting to be trapped here.
