Why don't stores like Walmart sell brand name shoes?

Stores like Kmart and Walmart never sell brand name shoes like Nike and Reebok. Why not? They sell brand names for all the other stuff.

      • Probably because name-brand companies cannot usually afford to “beat all other offers”. Often there are construction and materials differences in the generic and name-brand shoes, but at the very least–the name-brand companies have massive advertising campaigns to pay for that the small generic companies don’t. And Wal-Mart usually pushes for, and purchases the cheapest deals they can find.

Actually, I think it’s because these premium brands want to maintain a premium brand image and think that would be cheapened by selling at discount department stores. Case in point: Nike pulled it’s products from Sears after they bought the K-Mart chain, citing concerns that Sears would start stocking the shoes at K-Mart, and believing that would damage it’s image as a high-end brand.

Premium brands would never submit to the concessions demanded by Walmart. ANd as has been noted earlier, being prominently sold at Walmart would wreak havoc with prestige branding.

Heavily advertised “premium” brand shoes have relatively high margins, and part of their appeal is the conceit that they are somewhat exclusive, even if they are in every other store in the mall. You simply can’t maintain this profitable fiction if your shoes are sold at Walmart. Other than some of the better work boots most of the shoes sold at Walmart are cheaper and generic " made in China" house brand shoes.

My name-brand Nikes are made in Vietnam. I think the name-brands are already cutting costs as much as they can. Selling to Walmart would just lower their selling price and profit.

Point taken., I saw someBorn shoes the other day that were made in China, and thye are somewhat pricey
