Lissa, you’re absolutely right, and counteracting that is what the Blaxploitation era was all about, wasn’t it?
Well, as I recall the Blaxploitation was widely criticized for casting blacks in very defined roles that matched the general stereotypes of blacks in the larger society. Henceforth the term. Someone more informed on this topic could probably explain better.
However, the era did get exposure for many black actors and began the genre of “black heros” which logically led to the proliferation of black leads.
