Why GnR's "Civil War" Song Had A Line From Cool Hand Luke in It?

You know, “what we have here is a failure to communicate…” I just didn’t get ot why they put that segment in the song. I mean it sounds cool and that was one of the most memorable lines from the movie. There is probably some easy explanation for it but I just haven’t figured it out.

Any ideas? I mean just what exactly is that song about?

It might be a statement that most conflicts are caused (directly or indirectly) by lack of communication between the two parties. Just a WAG.

Diceman,

That is a pretty good WAG. You might have it.

I agree with Diceman, but alternatively you could look at it as Gun’s N Roses (and other bands with anti-war songs) failing to communicate with the masses, since we do indeed still have war.

More likely yet, they were big fans of the movie, were drunk, and it seemed like a good idea at the time. I mean, they’re a kickass band and all, but let’s not look for too much sophistication from them, eh?
