Why has the flow of refugees to Germany stopped?

Last year, over a million people streamed into Germany. This year, many fewer: 90,000 arrived in January, and only 19,000 in June.
This article from a respectable(-I think!-) German news channel states a couple reasons:
1)the Baltic states “closed their borders” and
2) the agreement between the EU and Turkey is being implemented,(paying Turkey big bucks to keep its borders closed.)

My question is about the specifics: how is the movement of people actually being stopped, physically?.

I assume that the demand is still there–from both of the sources:
1: from desperate refugees, who have seen so many of their fellow countrymen successfully reach Germany, and presumably want to join them there. And
2: from the smugglers who make huge profits by using old rusty ships and filling them with human cargo, who pay a lot of money for the chance of a new life.

I haven’t seen any news stories about the Turkish navy intercepting refugee ships.*
Is the Turkish navy arresting the smugglers or sinking their ships before they load the refugees?.
Is the Turkish army/police force surrounding the refugees and preventing them from reaching the coast?
Are the refugees staying in Turkey voluntarily, afraid to try their luck now?
I haven’t seen any reports about larger refugee camps being built in Turkey, or existing ones getting filled up to overflowing.
And, back to the first reason given in the cited article, about the states within Europe who closed their borders: last year, when , say, Macedonia closed its border, that resulted in more refugees being trapped in Greece. But this year, Greece doesn’t seem to be complaining about refugees…who apparently are not arriving in large numbers. So why is it relevant that some states closed their borders now?

*unlike the many continuing stories about the Italian navy stopping refugees ships from Libya, where the flow of refugees seems to be steady, or even increasing.

You missed the obvious one, the number or refugees and refugeeable people is finite. Syria is far from depopulated despite the fighting. For every refugees running away you have probably 3 or 4 times that number staying put.

yes, I know that Syria had a population of about 20 million, and “only” a few million of them have fled the country. But surely the flow of people didn’t just dry up overnight.
