Why hasn't Hollywood made a Doctor Who movie?

I agree that a film would have to be serious in order to work properly. While the Who universe is almost by definition zany - it’s that kind of zany that takes itself seriously.

The uber-mysterious, aloof, plotting Doctor that the books of late have seemed to favor would make a fine starting point for a serious, even, dare I say it, artsy science-fiction film. I’d like to see Doctor Who done ala Blade Runner, in a noir style.

Not that I don’t enjoy watching Tom Baker trip over his scarf or Jon Pertwee saving the English countryside, but there’s potential for more than camp.

Danny Elfman, give me a break. Anybody can do that stuff. I’d do it for free.

Douglas Adams had on-again/off-again backing by the studios to make a Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie when he died. Without his prodding it seems unlikely to come about now.

Sorry but… I didn’t mind the movie, but they messed with SO many things. The Doctor had this almost psychic knowledge of everyone’s future. What the hell was that?!?
